Rich's current Twitter status:@mariaandros Happy Birthday Maria!
If you read the Attention Age Doctrine 2, then you know how important your reputation is when marketing online.
You need to know what people are saying about you, your products, and your business. Because if you ignore it, things can spin out of control very quickly.
Companies like Kryptonite Locks...AOL...Dell...McDonaald's...even Wal-Mart learned this the hard way. They saw their reputations tarnished with internet revelations of shoddy workmanship, underhanded marketing techniques, and poor customer service.
These billion dollar corporations paid dearly for their mistakes. (In fact, Kryptonite Locks has never really recovered from their ball-point-pen fiasco.)
But you don't have to go through all that. In fact, you can monitor every online discussion your market is having about you and your products on a daily basis--starting right now.
That's a link to a little something we call the Reputation Monitor.
The Reputation Monitor is an easy-to-use program that keeps an eagle eye on the social media landscape for any term you choose. Just enter in the term, follow the simple directions, then sit back and let the Reputation Monitor do all the work.
This amazing program scours the internet, looking for your chosen term in blogs, forums, or other social media sites, then delivering lightning fast results to you through Google Reader.
With the Reputation Monitor, you'll always know when someone is praising your products...or ripping them to shreds. Which means you can run damage control very quickly without suffering the consequences.
It's a great tool which I use every day.
For example, I've got the Reputation Monitor set up to search for my name.
Whenever someone posts to a social media site with the words "Rich Schefren", the Reputation Monitor picks it up and informs me of what was written and where.
Now I can see exactly what's being said about myself and Strategic Profits. This gives me an insight into how the market feels about me and my products, and shows me places where I need to improve.
Plus, I can instantly swoop in and refute any false information posted, which is REALLY cool. I love getting those "Wow, how did you know I wrote that?" comments.
So if you're serious about keeping an eye on your online reputation, get the Reputation Monitor set up right now.
All you need is a Google Mail address or a Google ID and we'll show you how to do the rest in the simple-to-follow tutorial.
Sound like a plan?
Great--now go do that right now and get some terms locked in. Then post your comments below on what you find.
I think you'll be VERY surprised to find who's been talking about you.
To Higher Profits,
Rich
P.S. Oh, by the way...the Reputation Monitor is just another of the many valuable freebies we offer to our blog readers, courtesy of Strategic Profits.
We toyed with the idea of making this as a paid product, but I decided to give it away instead.
Because your online reputation is critical to your success in the Attention Age, and I didn't want anyone to someday find their business in a world of hurt because they couldn't afford this tool.
So it's yours for the taking. All I ask is that you please TAKE IT.
It could truly mean the difference between success and failure.

Hey Rich,
This is a great tool…
I also agree that in today Web 2.0 world you really have to follow what others are saying about you and make sure that your reputation is properly managed.

Will it work on a G4 mac running OS 10.4.9? Minimum system requirements don’t seem to be posted.
While I think the concept sounds great, the directions are neither simple nor clear. Too many “unknowns” for newer teckies and most references (so-called explanations) require that one go to another screen - sort or like holding your place in 6 places in one book at the same time.
Simple directions would be great - please make it so!
Thanks
carol - it will work on any computer because all the heavy lifting is done on our sever.
suzzane - did you click on the link that reads “Launch Upload Your OPML File To Google Reader Tutorial” because it seems pretty clear to me… where are you having difficulty?
Hi Rich,
I was trying to install the Reputation Monitor and got stuck, maybe like Suzzane, at the stage where I have to import/export OPML file by browsing my computer. it then gives a msg that no OPML file found. Not sure how to go ahead. I thought I need to just type in the words to monitor !
Pl. advise how to go to the next step. basically i wanted to track the name of the company I work in.
Hope you can help me out.
Regards,
Taj
Hi Rich
Will this work in a foreign language, such as Chinese?
Appreciate your answer.

How is this different from signing up for Google Alerts?
It is similar, but as I have alerts and now this new service suggested here, there are other reports that I have not seen in Alerts.
It is not hard to set up so give it a try!

Hi Rich,
thanks for the great tool.
It seems to look in a lot of “internet marketing-related” feeds doesn’t it ?
is it possible to edit the file and add other rss feeds ?
Tony
OK, i got it running - won’t work with international keywords that have accents in them (some feeds will be “broken”). And if you use multiple keywords, it might be useful to put in double quotes (because some search feeds do “OR” searches when there’s no quote).
Again, thanks for the great idea & tool !
Tony
Hey Rich.
Great Name “Reputation Monitor”.
Works really well! For me and my competition. I was amazed at all the tags to my name. I am just happy my name is not John Smith
Keep up the awesome blogs!
And thank you for all your help in the past!
Keith
Okay - I’m not a complete newbie but I can’t seem to download the opml file to my computer. The code for the file opens in either IE or Firefox but there is no actual downloaded opml file that I can search for using the browse button on Google Reader Import. The tutorial tells you how to import the file but is less clear on the download process. Is there a step missing somewhere?
I finally found the file - for those of you with PCs, you will need to dig down in your Users directory, typically
C:\Users\[your user name]\ AppData\Local\Temp\monitor.opml.xml
It’s not only not different from Google Alerts…it IS Google Alerts.
Very cool Rich! Thank you. I found it very easy to install.
At first it looked like I had no reputation…..but when I entered a second search term and imported that opml file…..I had lots of links. Nice to be able to monitor it all in one place. I appreciate you sharing this with us.

Thanks a bunch Rich.
I tried it and it works great.
I appreciate the way the online studies is done, becouse this is never found any where else, the couching program is very advance.
Thanks for a great tool, Rich. Very useful indeed. Spying on myself in a sense…
Interesting idea Rich and much more comprehensive than the Google Alert I run on my own name.
It must take you considerable time to go through your information based on how often I talk about you, let alone all the other bloggers who buy into your ideas.
paul, i read every one of your posts - not only the ones about me.
Wow Thanks Rich
That really is a big complement but I’ve obviously not been controversial enough to get you to write a comment.
I’m loving the Maven Marketing program at the moment as I try to carve out my own place for advice to customer focused entrepreneurs.
You and Jay are both fine examples of the ideas for creating high value for your clients while also capturing attention, loyalty and value.
Rich, Very very interesting indeed. One surprise — a nice one. Thank you.
To those of you struggling: I highly recommend downloading Firefox and taking control of your Internet experience. Clue — Options > Main tab > select “Show Download Window” & “Always ask me where to save files”
Again, Rich, Thank you very much.
enjoy have fun
Hehehe, thats pretty cool. I guess you’ll be looking at the “Who I’d like to meet” section on my Myspace then haha
Great Tool, it could probably be used to track keywords and be used in a SEO type of way if slightly modified.
Looks like a great tool, more comprehensive than Google Alerts.
When trying to upload the OPML file, I keep getting the error message “Your OPML file could not be imported. Please make sure that it is correctly formatted and try again.” Please help.
Hey Rich,
COOL TOOL!
It’s the first time I have used the Google Reader & luckily I’m a newbie so all I can find is all the items I have posted….
LOL!
Thanks again….

I will be using this for my google reader rss, I have been using google alerts but they are filled with my tracking and a lot of garbage, I think this will be better.
As usual Rich you are adding a great tool to many of our arsenals.
Awesome tool Rich! This is a must for any internet marketer! And google reader is an awesome tool to use! Just ask Ed Dale
Man, Rich I gotta give it to you, another brilliant concept. It’s always a good thing when you can check up on your overall progress, linkbacks, what others are saying etc, thanks.

i hope you realize that it is not only for your name, but you can also put your keywords, and the name of your competitors
actully i don’t have my web site..so i don’t how to open and run my business….this is my problem….
How important it really is to be ontop of “who’s saying what about you”.Rich Schefren’s tool is very helpful. If you want to even get a bit advanced, try SM2 by Techrigy. Their FREE version online service gives you analysed content of your keywords such as positive opinions, negative opinions, legal related, product problem related, stock related. You also get geo-location and demogaphic of the bloggers including the authority ranking. You can set up up to 10 keywords.eg.own company, competitor, proucts ,affiliates etc.
try them at http://www.techrigy.com…to higher profits
Hey Rich,
I couldn’t agree more - reputation, credibility and integrity are most certainly requirements for business success these days.
Not that it hasn’t always been the case, but in today’s marketplace one bad word from the wrong person (with the right connections) can virtually ruin your establishment.
If you say you’re gonna do something…
Do it and go overboard.
Always under-promise and over-deliver… on your message, your offer and your promise. Even if your promise takes months longer to fulfill than expected (that’s actually what happened to me just recently)…
I’ve been promising my subscribers a report taken directly from their biggest questions about making money… I’ve been promising this report since late February!
But just last night I finally finished it. And it’s getting some really killer feedback. Totally free content - no strings, exactly as promised months ago.
Thanks for keeping my feet to the fire and helping me overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles to get this done, Rich. I appreciate you man!
Blessings,

Thanks Rich!
I have been using Alerts but this seems a very simple interface and I have been getting used to Gmail lately anyway - they have a great spam filter and it is so mobile. It seems to collect more data than alerts already.

I tried to download from this page and received an error page. Been off the Net for over a week building a 32 geodesic dome! Love to see this software as I’m a consumer investigative reporter.
Thanks,

Thanks Rich
Very nice, simple and slick.
For the person who said it is google alerts, that’s factually incorrect. I’ve just tried RM for a term I’ve been monitoring
“as it happens” with google alerts for months and its way more elegant and useful.
Now at last I can switch off G. alerts - this combined with Google Reader is way superior.
Rich, when you are producing free products which are clearly simpler and superior to paid solutions and also give your subscribers something they so badly need (whether they know it or not) maybe it would be a good idea to market the tools more widely (PPC etc) to make a solutions focused market more aware of it.
For instance, if someone is searching for “online competitive intelligence tools” then it would be great to present them with the exact free gift they’re looking to pay for and an intro to strategic profits at the same time.
Just a thought. Seems a shame not to use stuff this good as an independant lead vehicle.
This is a great product! Great find guys.
Hi Rich,
I appreciate the Reputation Tool, but this version seems greatly crippled compared to what was linked inside one of your previous reports.
Please enlighten me as to why this may be, and whether it’s possible to access the older version of your tool.
Thanks
