For 15 years I ran a local magazine publishing business, driving around town all day long getting ads from local businesses. Recently I realized I was giving the oil companies all my profits. So I just retooled my business to be all copywriting and graphic design. I can work from my home, use the web/email/mail/phone to run the business. And instead of only local advertisers, my target market is ANYONE ANYWHERE who needs my services. Thank you, media, for publicizing the huge profits the oil companies are making. Now I feel the urgency to make my own big profits while spending a mimimal amount on gas. Take that. :-) Janet Jon Poland, I have a similar story. Urgency for all aspects of life... after all we only have a few years on this earth. But with respect to business I would add something else equally important - that's focus. (at least in my mind there is) what the two have in common is speed what makes urgency superior is its implication it's based on a premeditated destination - while acting impulsive implies spur of the moment decisions with no previous thought. does that help? no problem nivas…

You have nailed this one on the head. I, like you, sat on the sidelines for years and watched as others created success while I kept waiting for the "right time" to jump into the game. I never was short on inspiration. I was inspired almost every day. However, it was only after I created a "Sense Of Urgency" did I compel myself to lean into it and start my own web-based business. I live near the beautiful Lake Minnetonka area just west of Minneapolis. I run a private car service (i.e. limo business) and have many clients that live in multi-million dollar homes on Lake Minnetonka. Every day I drive around the lake and see these beautiful homes, and every day I get inspired. The thought of building a successful web business and living in an amazing $7M Lake Minnetonka home has inspired me for years. But even with all this inspiration, I have accomplished very little in regard to creating my dream business and the life I have always imagined. The inspiration was been there for years. But it was only after developing a "Sense of Urgency" did I make the leap of faith and get into the game. And what is the source of this "Sense of Urgency" that has motivated me to take action? It's $4 a gallon gas and the threat that it is going to $6 by the end of the summer. I'm serious. The price of fuel has had a dramatic impact of the profitability and future of my car service business. I expect that the price of gas will continue to rise and I am committed to put myself in a position where I am not impacted by it. While others in my business sit around and complain about the price of fuel, I have used it to create a "Sense of Urgency". I'm using the high price of gas as "motivation" to create a successful online venture so I can walk away from a limo business that is getting killed by the high price of fuel. We are all different. For some, inspiration is enough. It has taken me a few years to figure this out, but I need both inspiration AND a sense of urgency. Rich, your post resonated with me on a very deep level. Thanks again. Best Regards, Jon Poland Rich

You can be inspired and still take a long time to do a particular action. That when you get too is of no good. However in this context Urgency is certainly the most fitting word. When something is hot to go... Its hot right now... Some things may wait sure. But if you attack it with "urgency".... Well its just amazing what you can achieve when you get in that zone. Cheers Marc I wouldn’t agree with using inspiration vs Urgency.
