I’ve run a very small one for eleven years and am ready to make it bigger, but of course, am overwhelmed at all that must be done “right now” or “before” I can move forward. OmniGroup.com has several programs that serve as outlining or visual creators (for OS X platforms) so a business can recreate their own graphs and charts and outlines (to-do lists) for inspiration (someone asked previously). Very easy to use and really good.

In part, it affirms my own understanding, at this point in my life - after having been in a business that did not leverage my strengths for many years, I decided to make a change a few years ago to one that did.

Brilliant! Well done, Rich! Being a business coach myself, I know that it’s not the quantity of knowledge I have sometimes, that’s crucial to my success or my client’s, but my ability to convey that critical information in a meaningful way to my client that will inspire them to action. And, you my friend, have that rare quality. Your thoughts are clear, your writing is direct and concise, but most important - it’s relevant and meaningful.

I really got some exciting insights from the ‘missing’ chapter. Full Marks to you Rich for the effort you made in analysing & responding to client questions. The biggest danger facing a guru is in assuming that those less advanced understand the stuff they didn’t write ‘cos it was ‘obvious’. Just look at the average copy for product instructions. Great stuff. I’m going to share it around a bit, starting with my jobless graduate son.
You really tell it like it is, and I appreciate that. There is so much garbage to wade through on the Internet - that it is literally like a breath of fresh air to read your Manifesto. I usually spend my days wandering around the intenet holding my nose from the stench of all those opportunist pitches!

Great guidance on what to focus on when thinking about breaking free from needing a job. The aproach of shopping around for markets first, then taking inventory of your strengths and concentrating your efforts on developing them really make sense in what to focus your mind on when laying out your plan of action towards successfully starting and running a business.

with your Manifesto as it applied to myself ‘working’ my online biz.
The Missing Chapter really sparked that Ah-Ha moment for me, that we all really strive for. Like the onion in your Manifesto, I need to strip away the many layers I’ve inadvertantly applied to the core/basics of my business - so much so that I get lost in my own mire, smoke and mirrors, and wearing the rose coloured glasses. It is a strange trait that we have of making things more difficult and believing that it must be this way or we’re not doing it right.
I found myself nodding and smiling at seeing myself in what you had written, but the good news is that I could also see the potential for so much more when starting or rather getting back to the ‘basics’ of my strengths, passions and creating the ’cause’ as you so aptly pointed out.

Talk about turning me around. I’ve been working online for some time and thought I was headed in the right direction, and fortunately I was not terribly far off track, but enough so that I will have to reflect and redirect some of my efforts.
I see that my means of helping others may have had some positive impact, but there is still much more that I can learn. Thank you for showing me that no only is there room to grow, but that I’ve been helpful, if a little off target, myself.

Is it fair to say that an interest is not enough to run a successful business, but that it must be focused and fortified by solid strengths built on the particular natural inborn talent(s) a person is inclined to by his wiring?

Great stuff. Honestly, I found that missing chapter even more powerful than the Manifesto. I’ve even saved it to my desktop to read a few more times
See, don’t we hear such conflicting advice online? One man says, “what are your hobbies and interests? Build a business based on them, even if the profit potential is small”.
And then another guy says, “seek-out 100 tight niches, and rule them all. Quantity is quality, blah, blah”.
None of it bad advice.
I believe it’s the ‘mindset’ you’re in - your ’stance’ and ‘posture’ - that determines your success.
And your missing chapter homed-in on that point in a way that’s not been done before (at least not that I’ve seen).
Working with your strengths is like giving yourself a headstart, isn’t it? I mean, if you’ve been surfing since you were 7 years old, and everyone knows you rule the waves when you hit the beach…
…And people are always seeking you out for surfing advice, because your method makes it look easy…
…And then you go and set-up a gambling website?!

For the last few days I had a “sneaking suspicion”….
Then I download and I proceed to read the missing chapter…
and it confirms my “sneaking suspicion”…..
and….I get it.
The problem was I had “forgotten” it in some cases
and ignored it in others.
Another funny thing is I had pretty much decided “months n months ago” to go back down that path…(you know….. the incorporate/utilize your strength)
In some circles it’s called……
“Being Real” / “Keeping it Real”
So here’s the deal….I do not
need your coaching class.

The manifesto definitely was food for thought, and now comes this missing chapter… What can i say? You’re right, it did make me angry, for a few minutes. And i’m still trying how to work out how to make my strength (computers - my passion for 40 years, even though they weren’t in reach until about 25 years ago) into a Cause. I mean, sure, to me they are that, but turning others on to my viewpoint has eluded me for almost as long…

Every few years I read a book that really hits home. The combination of Manifesto & Missing Chapter are the latest.
I have actually had some reasonable business successes in the past — I took over a company, used credit cards to fund it, and grew it from nothing to $3.2M in sales 3 years later (sound familiar?) — and have chasing online marketing opportunities the past 2 years. All though I generate a nice living, I can totally relate to every thing you described.
It’s time to get back to my strengths - which coincidentally are business coaching & consulting… would love to talk to you about that aspect of your business!

Thanks for putting in the hard work to make a very timely topic so cogent and engaging.
All of us need to be reminded of what my partner calls the “main thing” and, as he says, “Keep the Main Thing the Main Thing.”
The Manifesto and the Missing Chapter are most enlightening works I had read in a long time. I have read hundreds of marketing and business development books over the past 20 years. Very few offer truly new ideas or strategies and even fewer offer a way to implement them. Most are just rehashed ideas behind new dust covers. I would hope that the majority of the people that downloaded the Manifesto and the Missing Chapter would actually take action on their new found knowledge. Learning something new without ever applying that knowledge is a complete waste of time. Michael Gerber of E Myth Worldwide is probably the only other person that I have ever found that shares a similar vision and he has been living that vision since 1977.

Hi Rich, Thank you ~ awesome. The Manifest could have been a brilliant sales letter. It had all the elements. Problem, agitation, and a hint of solution. Controversy, and reframing to create a new “Leadership” position in a crowded market.
Intantly everyone else becomes a pretender, and just arguing with you puts them outside the tent. Testimonials, real value content keeping interest high throughout, a hint of scarcity, survey and competition to collate info and further drive debate. Even a price warning to qualify the interested.
And what’s more, as a sales letter it would be invisible. Most would read the message, and pick up the pitch on the fly, and because the insights add real value, it’s infinately viral. Brilliant!
The missing chapter operates at a whole new level. Yes, the Manifesto’s strategic/tactical debate had to be raised, and there is truth in the fact that some internet names have us on a treadmill of looking for newer shinier shovels ~ but in the long run, the people who grind out the formula solutions are hostage to those with a cause, honed to a fine edge with talent.
A real wake up call. Thank you.
So my question is: Where are you going with this? Clearly sufficient demand has long since been built to fill your last personal coaching sessions with the manifesto, so that’s not it.
Maybe you’re looking to replicate your hypnosis sucess in internet coaching, and these are your own “Help Wanted” ads.

Hi Rich, Thank you, awesome just doesn’t seem to cut it. I have just finished reading the Missing Chapter and you hit me between the eyes right at the start by saying that a web site is not a business. There is so much there that I will have to go back and read it a couple of times to truly absorb it but I am a little miffed that you want me to think for myself. I know what my strengths are but converting them to an online business is going to take some thought. As a newbie I have been wanting someone to take me by the hand and say do this, do that etc. and my immediate thought was to run back to what I have been taught because by following your strategies I will have to think for myself, I will have to stretch my boundaries and move out of my comfort zone. Isn’t that fantastic? Scary but exciting. Thank you again.

I loved several things especially about the Missing Chapter:
1. It confirmed that I am in the right business, as I am firmly playing to my strengths.
2. It confirmed my belief that there’s a LOT of misinformation in the IM world that, frankly, is purposely focused on appealing to the Opportunist’s mindset. Fortunately, I have ignored a lot of it, picked out the cherries, and have been approaching my business very strategically.
3. It confirmed that I don’t have to worry about 99% of my competition. Most of them simply don’t/won’t have the committment required to compete with me. That’s not to say I’ll have an easy ride - that 1% will be formidable indeed!
4. What I didn’t realise was how powerful I could turn the passion I feel for my business - and the tremendous mission we are on - into a selling proposition to outsourcers as well as employees. Yet it makes so much sense. Thanks for that incredible nugget. (I LOVED the ads you provided!)

I confess to being an opportunist…but also an entrepreneur. I think you are spot on with your analysis and most people…including me must have got a swift kick in the butt…owwwwwwwch!
Luckily for me I have been playing to my strengths in our current business…not through intent, but through a “Heart Felt Desire” to make other peoples lives just that bit easier and helping Kids along the way to expand “their” talents, and grow in their own confidence to be able to face the world ahead.
Absorbing the “Missing Chapter”…I now realise that for me…my main strength is in teaching…and it was like walking down a long straight road with a darkened and clouded vision.
As I read what you had written…the Sun began to break through the cloud and light up my road ahead. I can see my route!

“Distilled wisdom” is perhaps the way to describe the Manifesto and Missing Chapter.
I have been a “newbie on the verge of …” for about three months. At first I thought it was because of info overload and analysis paralysis but now I realise I wasn’t taking the plunge because my instincts shied away from most of the business models I saw on the net.
Now I realise I was being strategic because I didn’t want to be another lemming (”just build a 1,000 blogs on automatic and become an Adsense millionaire!”) and I really want to build a longterm, different business that I will excel at. So, now, with your distilled wisdom, I realise that the same things that I thought were hindering me were, in fact, a major strength.
I was going to wish you good luck with your publishing project but I’m sure luck won’t be a factor you will need so instead, may you have much success and many happy clients.

I would like to grant you a very large “CONGRATULATIONS” on being the very first Internet Based Marketing Expert who had enough backbone and compassion to come into this realm of business interaction and publicly identify the greatest viral disease that has plagued the Internet for many years now.
To me and my business associates it has been known as A.I.D.S. since it actually appeared on the Internet and began growing back about the middle of 1996.
By The Way – Mr. James of Chicago, IL – you and Mr. Schefren are not the only successful business people who have stepped into this realm of interaction. If fact sir there a number of successful business people who have been watching this unfold who have a relationship with today’s Internet that dates much further back than you or Mr. Schefren – or any of his high profile Internet Success stories could hope to boast of or about.
I personally was one of the men who stood in the rain, sleet, snow and waste deep mud laying the fiber-optic cables across the USA that carry most all of the Internet traffic of today - back in the late 1980’s before you ever had the opportunity or even knew you would be able to generate your measly million dollar a year income from it usage at all.
If you and I had been sitting in the same room when you made your comment about the “Same Old Same Old”– it would have immediately been met from me with the question of, “How much Same Old Same Old did it take you until you got to the place where you COULD pat yourself on the back about that measly million dollars you make from Internet usage or any business income at all?”
Life dictates that this world will always have those who wish to buy and those who wish to sell products, services and knowledge. The worldly realities known to us as marketing and advertising will not disappear or be concluded any time soon.
Thus one of the most effective and powerful formulas and tools of use in that realm of business will continue to be A.I.D.A. as Attention – Interest – Desire – Action… [no matter how invisible it may appear to be.] If it educates it has one of the highest places in business allowed. Unfortunately in today’s world the “Action” factor of this formula has been replaced by a deep degree of wrongness through very simple self imposed cases of “Senselessness.”
Coupling this “Senselessness” with quick appearances and disappearances of businesses to the continuing growth of the misrepresentation of true entrepreneurial thoughts and actions has today, in my observation, given the Internet A.I.D.S. as Attention – Interest – Desire – Senselessness.
Internet A.I.D.S. is costing common day consumers and business people both more dollars and cents than any prepared and achieved Internet Scam.
I have personally spoken with people who have contracted Internet A.I.D.S. that have run up tens of thousands of dollars of credit card debit to achieve monthly twenty to thirty dollar paychecks.
I have also interacted with others who have paid high consultation fees to a marketing guru for joint ventures or ultimate hypnotic writing and/or e-mail advertising campaigns, for the achievements of a couple of thousand dollars of income through those efforts.
These factors of “Senselessness” are wide spread, costly and destroying hundreds, perhaps even thousands of people’s dreams of entrepreneurial achievement daily around this world.
And it angers me and many of my other business associates to see the epidemic of A.I.D.S. [as it is defined above] so very widespread across the Internet that we placed our blood, sweat and utmost effort into making possible – especially when it comes form someone who most likely is patting themselves on the back for making a million dollars a year from its usage.
Ladies & Gentlemen… now that I have dislodged the bee out of my bonnet that Mr. James’ comment placed I would like to direct your attention to a singular factor that escaped the attention of Mr. James of Chicago, IL completely…
As to why you should take Mr. Schefren more seriously than you have taken any other Internet Marketing Expert you have ever interacted with before in your Internet experiences.
As you may all be aware of - Mr. Schefren ran a contest the other day where he promised to grant an individual “A 60 Minute Makeover” …Correct?
Well ladies & gentlemen he has delivered on that situation far beyond – and in a form much larger than he stated – for he placed your “60 Minute Makeover” in your world and life… not in the form of a conversation or phone call you might forget or get scrambled in a couple of days… but in black & white – that you could return to each time the fog of past business interactions begin to creep back into your world, life and business.
So any time you might become aware that your business might benefit from a “60 Minute Makeover” for your business Mr. Schefren will be there once again to take you by the hand and possibly lead you directly back to the location where a slight adjustment maybe needed to improve everything once again.
See each business is as personal as the mind that is behind its existence, operation and livelihood… just as no one can truly bring a couple together a resulting marriage work — neither can any one else bring you to the business that will bring you the longingly feelings [like the ones you experienced the first time you fell in love with the little boy or girl next door] — but when that business comes into your life it will be all filling just as that first love was way back when.
And one final thought before I back off into the vastness of our Internet of today.
If you are truly seeking a business of your own that will change the most important world of all- [your very own]- prepare yourself and it will come to you…
WHY? – Because this world is based on the simplest of laws – 1 + 1 can not do anything else in this world but equal 2, thus 1 [you prepare yourself] needing to achieve 2 — than the simple laws of this world’s operation is required to provide you that second 1… just like that very first love came at the very time you were prepared to experience love outside the realm of your immediate family— way back when.
How do I know the 1+1 formula to be fully true and reliable? Well it is simply because I am slightly less than 50 years old and have retired 4 times in my life with well over 3 million dollars a year income … and each time my mind becomes discontent with retirement [and all the fishing, hunting, sleeping late and late nights sharing my thoughts with others on the Internet] that comes along with retirement another business comes into my world. And not on single time that I have come out of retirement has that arriving business come from anything I had done before it.

Rich, I believe the missing chapter is the main part. The rest was just an intro. I liked lot of ideas and it really makes one think.
I will try to use and reuse idas from you and now you have gone up to a level how I respect Jay Abraham for his ideas (which maybe is taken from different angle but it all ties nicelly together);
Another thing I noticed that this report wont be useful for all people. It’s too complicated. Sometimes I wonder how people can lack such common sense things in their life that seems like natural for every human, not to mention things like this manifest on biz building.
Btw, I read many of these who requested 1 hour call, and many of them seemed unrealistic; i mean, i had a feeling they haven’t read the manifest or they haven’t get it. It’s not just about aff site or how to work from home. It’s so much bigger. Unfortunatelly I didn’t managed to post my request as i was busy figuring out the ideas on strengths and vision. Good thing is that we have found strength to beat all other companies in this 100M industry, but problem is how to achieve that on limited resources. So called implementation (as I refer at the bottom of my post).
Your ideas is big and heavy, they are concepts that works for executing vision. Bigger than just to make 100$/day.
I also have feeling we need the third - the last chapter: “Implementation”.
Because I have feeling that was described by one man “It’s not lack of knwoledge, it’s lack of implementation.”
We basically got the bigger picture, but now it has to be executed into MEGA BIG ACTION.

Great Work. I have just read both the Manifesto and the Missing Chapter. You’re right common sense, pity it was not used more often. Anyway I already have an online business just getting started, had a bit of a chuckle about how people pick their business online, seen this in offline businesses as well, amazing how intelligent people, can get things so wrong. I have created my business to my strengths I believe. My area of expertise in Crystal Healing and related areas, now this is a growing industry and lots of people are getting on the bandwagon so to speak. My strength is that I am able to teach and explain to people how crystal and healing works in a way that everyone can understand. My approach is some what different to others as I do not colour my information with unnecessary fluff, just get straight to the point. I write my books this way too, probably not what the publishers want but hey, people are always telling me that I make things clear and easy to understand and that’s my strength.
Now I know that you are probably thinking do I really need to know this, well I felt that before I ask a question or make a point if you like you needed to know some background information.
My business which is still getting up and running by the way no seven figure sums as yet, but I understand that you need to put in the work before you can reap the rewards(sorry got of the track a bit). Here is my question or point whatever you like. My business is based on my strength of communicating on a personal and unique level with my clients, so if I was to outsource some of my work, I would not be working to my strengths, so for me outsourcing my products which is the books I write and the articles and newsletters that I produce would be a weakening of my business, My website is again a product of myself and how I talk and think so for me outsourcing is not a option, my point being that for some of us in certain niches we are the ones that have to carry the workload. I feel that I would be cheating my clients if I had a ghost writer doing the work, even if they could get near to the way I write, it would still not be me and to me that would be dishonest.
I know I have rambled on again, but I hope that you get the point that I am trying to make, and understand that for the majority outsourcing is a viable and useful option.
Anyway before I use up all your bandwidth I would like to say a resounding THANK YOU!! for sharing this information with us and I will certainly be using it everyday to improve my business and achieve my goals,

What Can I say? I thought this missing chapter was just 5 to 9 pages forgotten things to be written. I was wrong. This is even 1 page more than the original. I would say that it’s more than just the missing chapter. I put on my activity list a high priority to read the two manifestos everyday for the next 2 weeks. Thanks Rich.

I am on my third read of the missing chapter having already read the Manifesto. All I want to say is Thank You because what I took away from your writing is to build on strengths and gifts rather than find a need and fill it. Only time will tell how it works for me but this rings true for me.
