Whenever one of the girls gets something new, the first thing they do is squeal with delight.
The second thing they do is thrust it into my lap saying, "PLEEEEEASE put it together Daddy?"
Oh, the joys of being a Father...;)
Now, when it comes to assembling a toy or a bike or a Barbie Playhouse, I'm not one to fiddle around with instructions. I simply don't have the patience. I mean, let's face it: whoever writes these things has a sadistic sense of humor.
First you gotta unfold the origami-esque instructions, which you will never return to its original form no matter how hard you try.
Then you have to find your preferred language, which depending on where the toy was manufactured can take quite a while.
Then you check the inventory of screws, parts, stickers, and assorted plastic pieces, almost assuredly ending up with too many of one thing and not enough of another.
Then--and ONLY then--are you ready to put it together.
Like I said, I don't have the patience for this. So most of the time I just dive in and start putting pieces where I think they should go according to the picture on the box.
And usually it moves along pretty well...to a point. Then suddenly, I realize the thingamajig should have went into Slot D instead of Slot P. Uh oh. Which means Fold B is not actually a "Fold" at all, but an Insert. Yikes. And the Phillips head screw wasn't supposed to go in the Main Unit, but in the Side Unit. Ouch.
Meanwhile, my daughter is looking over my shoulder with breathless anticipation, asking the same question every 14.2 seconds.
"Is it done yet, Daddy?"
Oy.
Eventually, I get the thing together. But not without a few hours of intense frustration, some R-rated words uttered under my breath, and backtracking several times to fix what I messed up.
And of course, all of this would have been avoided if I had only followed the instructions.
Which brings me to my point: What I just did with my kids' toy is EXACTLY what many of us do these days with our businesses. I mean, who cares about processes anyway? Right?
We jump in and start firing away in all directions, blindly pushing forward and ignoring the road signs that say "don't go here!"
And the result? Not good. You get pulled in a million directions at once, lots of things get started but never finished, and eventually you give up entirely because it's simply too much effort to go on.
Sound familiar?
Now, I'm not saying you should sit back and plan plan plan 'til you're blue in the face. If you've been reading my Taking Action series, then you know that's not the case.
But what I AM saying is this: It's a lot easier to build something--whether it be a successful business or a Strawberry Shortcake scooter--when you follow the step-by-step directions or processes. A vital key to transforming your business is the understanding of the processes involved.
Now, I don’t want to make a big deal out of this and I know it’s nothing new to you BUT HEAR THIS;
Most people still do not do it or take it seriously. That’s why I want to show you some examples and talk a little about it.
I know… “What’s the big surprise Rich? This is not rocket science…”
While working with our clients, talking with successful friends, and researching for our major new releases, we find that many of the people struggling know this but are STILL not creating systemized processes in their business.
You see, most people spend time creating their strategic objectives and big goals. Then objectives are created to hit the overall strategy of the company. Then they create objectives to support the bigger objective. Then they will develop all kinds of goals so that they can measure the company’s progress toward the objectives. And none of the goals will conflict with each other, right? The company’s plans are executed perfectly and everything is great. Just collect the checks because everything is all rosey and perfect. Huh?
Welcome to the real world. Most people create these in a vacuum.
The list of activities that need to take place in each process is what will determine if a business can meet its goals and objectives. It is an approach that will help assure reliable accomplishments and profitability. It’s an approach that will help assure controls are in place to alleviate risks.
You need to understand the processes that will efficiently drive your company forward. These processes play an important part in understanding the way the work is done, even if you THINK you know how it is done. It’s a great way to identify gaps or improvements, hidden steps you may not know about. It will guide your teams or outsourcers on how work is to be done which will improve efficiencies and reducing headaches. It is your “User Guide” or “Instructions” if you will.
Don’t confuse this with a business plan because that’s not want I am talking about.
Would you build a toy scooter without instructions? Would you build a house or building without a blueprint? Would you try to drive across the country without a road map? I mean, you could, but does it make sense to?
Well then why try to build a company without systemized processes no matter how big or small they are? Just think about that. How many people do you know that could NOT show you what they use as a guide?
So where exactly do you get those "how to build a business" blueprints? Well, we are about to release a whole series of them but for now, here is an example from our friends over at Cashmaps of an important tool like I am talking about. These process maps are not the “end-all-be-all” but they are to show you examples of processes that can help you get more done faster and in a reliable manner.
Imagine if you had something like this for all the major aspects in your business… How would that positively enhance your progress?
It would take guess work out, and unite teams. It would have clear paths so that you could measure progress effectively and monitor performance. Helps focus people on what matters the most. Identifies bottlenecks and constraints. Helps to streamline delegation. Helps to understand boundaries, and align business activities to objectives. Improves communications. Clearly identifies if your processes are working or not, and much more.
EVEN BETTER… what if someone did them for you, or handed the proven processes to you on a silver platter?
It's true—processes and process maps helped me build my business and achieve massive success so quickly. I am going to share more with you in the future on this but for now... This "CashMap" (as I like to call it) is just an example of the kind of process maps I use to help systematize my business and accomplish my goals faster, easier, and with less effort.
When I need to know what to do next, I simply refer to my process maps and it tells me the exact step to take. No long winded rhetoric. No boring theory. Nothing but good, clean, to-the-point content that shoves me in the right direction.
So here’s a free sample process map for you. No opt-in necessary.
(One note--there is an opportunity on the download page to get another 3 of these maps for free as well, but you have to check out the link to find out more.)
I'm telling you--this is exactly one of the things you need to assemble a profitable income in the shortest time possible.
Talk about your easy-to-follow instructions...I wish someone told me this when I was just getting started.
To Higher Profits,
Rich
OH, and one last thing...after you download this Process map and look it over, come back here and tell me what you think in the comments below.

Hi Rich,
These are brilliant I downloaded them last week and have started implementing them in my business.
They’re a great place to start if you want to see an overview of what systems you need to have in place for your business.
Thanks for taking the time to put these together.

Great work Rich. I have similar process maps done for my whole real estate investing business. You are right in that its a great way to keep direction as well as a training tool for new hires.
Take care,

Thaaannnk yooouuu! I am new to IM. Just started to build a list of just prospects. The Cashmaps are my next step.
The timing is great.
Thanks
Trevor
Rich, you hit the nail (again).
In fact, I can second your experience in the business world (and in the kids-world, well… I learned from past experience and use the instructions for our kids toys NOW, you can do that too Rich
)
In my opinion,
it is the knowledge-pushing we all are exposed to on a daily basis, that gets in the way for too many entrepreneurs, who are sucking in all the knowledge they can, hopefully pick one thing or two and do it - still could do a lot better with planning out the overall strategy.
And you know what I found to be the main reason?:
Planning sounds boring -> and it can be, if you don’t make it interesting.
So what we actually have to achieve to get people going to plan, is to make it interesting to do it - don’t you agree Rich?
Said that, I haven’t seen the “how to make planning fun” part mentioned on your blog yet, guess it’s time to think about it…
(-hint-
or did I miss it? you can never have enough ideas, at least in my opinion — if you don’t get overwhelmed and blocked from taking action though)
So although it is covered as part of business-improvement in my seminars, I probably should emphasise it even more & include more ideas to, like said, make the planning fun.
Which brings me to: THANK YOU RICH for the reminder,
David Rummel
http://www.Vertrauen-ist-Marketing.com“
Looks another great idea Rich and I’m sorry I leaked this but I was only doing what my email said. I nearly apologised on your last blog posting but then I realised it would just attract more attention and spoil your announcement on here.
Fantastic! A process map to do an activity efficiently can cut big chunks of time from the work and can become the difference between success and failure.
We have decided to dedicate the month of August to create process maps and activity guidelines for almost every activity we do (marketing, sales, customer service, accounting) so that new people can get up to speed faster and existing people can deliver better quality, quicker… everytime.
Thanks Rich - much appreciated
Rich,
What software were these done with?
Was is smart draw or something else ..
Thanks
Cris Chico
I was also wondering what software to use. I guess I could use my Mindjet MindManager Pro 6. They just did an update I think I will take a closer look at to see if they built that in.
Thanks Rich.

Hey Rich!
These maps are simply fantastic! It puts what I have been trying to accomplish all at one time into a sytematic approach that I can use to simplfy my business efforts into a step by step approach. Thank you for them.

Process maps, flow charts, state diagrams, planning: the bane of the “get rich quick” crowd.
These make the difference between creating a business that operates online, and just making money by tricks and gimmicks.
Oh, and if you think planning is boring and/or a waste of time:
Imagine your lawyer’s performance at YOUR trial if s/he did zero planning and just showed up at trial and “winged it.”
I’ve seen it happen. It’s not pretty for the court or the client (it’s painful for ME to watch, even though it’s really profitable for my client).
Patton, Lombardi and Wooden were great planners. Oh - and Rich Schefren (and Frank Kern, despite his “duuuuuuude” persona)
Britney Spears seems to be a non-planner.
Take your pick.
Rich: Awesome, just setting up my website and this will help a lot. Organization, business wise, is not my strong point, currently. That is something I am working on and will continue to. These maps are are a hugh boost to my weekend plans to organize and implement my new website.
Thanks You Rich

Very nice, Rich!
Rich, I think your educating people in the maps is a wonderful thing. I have been using mapping for years (called “critical path methodology) developed by the engineering industry to flow engineering designs. There is also another part that works well with mapping and it called PERT, which is math models to provide probabilities for success of your mapping. I think any new thinking towards these line are of extreme value to every business..too bad most don’t use them..sure helps the thought process to add quality and value to your offerings.
Rich,
These maps are excellent!
I especially like the fact that you linked resources right in the map to execute the processes in the maps.
Joseph Ratliff
I do like your map s I have seen ones before yet with yours I am only a few steps away thanks for the encouragement . lily
Love the bonus cashmaps, too! Found myself smack in the middle of one map having skipped some important steps along the way. These really are idea generators.
I’m a Mac user (forget manuals!) which contributes to my habit of ignoring instructions and just jumping in. These maps are great reminders of the importance of detailed planning. Wonder if Mac offers software to generate something like this…
Thanks for another brain-revver-upper concept.

Rich,
Great maps, however…
The Tell a Friend script just called one of my friends the name of one of my other friends that I sent this to (in the email opening).
Embarrasing.

Wow, Rich, thank you sooo…much. I am an artist who got “distracted” by the website thing and have spent $$$$’s, researched and printed and bookmarked ideas, etc,etc til it’s ridiculous and as yet I have no website cause the overwhelm just overtakes me.
As a visual person these help so much and now it’s beginning to make sense. A friend has taught me the RTFM (read the f*ckin manual) principle as we have put together shelves and installed fans, etc together but website info has seemed to send me in a spin and then it doesn’t get done, again.
If I do nothing else this lifetime, I am gonna get a website up!
Thanks again,
Lynda / ~ljl~
OK Linda - let’s do some simple maths. Let’s say your time is worth $100 per hour. Let’s say the price of a web designer to build your site for you is $100 per hour. If you spend 80 hours doing what the specialist web designer can do in 20 hours, have you just saved yourself (20x$100=$2000) or cost yourself (60x$100=$6000) if you build the website yourself. And then you have to do more work each time you want to change/maintain your site as you will have to refresh your knowledge whereas a specialist will just do the necessary actual work.
Thanks Rich, been looking for this, there is soooo much to do and no time to do it. This is the best tool to organize your thoughts, site(s), and campaign.
Sean B.
Yes, Brad Semp’s CashMaps are great… and it is great that you recognize his and their value.
Dennis
Thanks for the great content Rich. I find process maps to be invaluable and appreciate these. Like an airline pilot’s pre-take off and landing checklist this is ideal for your business take-off.
I am more impressed with the idea of using the flow charts for instructions. I have so many instructions manuals and have purchased many of the “how to” kits etc. With the growth of my hosting business I ahve been making ‘crash course’ videos BUT…
The CashMap flow chart makes it really simple for me to follow. I am a visual/tactile learner and these four charts are easier for me to follow than any of the written documents or the “blah blah blah” of a video. Have you compiled any more?
Thanks,

These process maps are a great resource. Knowing what you need and how to get started are often difficult.
Hi Rich: I was able to see almost immediately two steps of which I wasn’t aware - they should make a nice difference! Thanks!
After looking at the process maps I realised that I am missing a few key components in my online businesses. In fact if I can equate it to building a bicycle then the handlebars are loose and I am not going quite where I want.
I already have quite a few resources you have given but there are a few more I didn’t know of which should prove useful.
Much better than recreating the wheel! Thank you very much.
Awesome stuff rich. For those of us that are a little less organized( LOL) and a lot better at connecting and promoting,
I love these visual maps.
This is a great gift as usual. Thanks so much.
I wish you continued prosperity and much joy in your life.
Have an awesome day.
Scott
The first one looks great but where are the other two? There is only one PDF there to download.
The other two are found after you put in some references with your name and email address.
Great cashmaps.
Rich.
Thankyou. The first time I have found some sound structure + processes to follow in developing my business. This is a ‘web’ road map that I can easily follow.
Rich,
Great stuff! As you know, we share a passion for strategy and process. Having a good solid process takes the drudgery (and lots of the danger) out of planning and strategizing.
Thanks as always,
Jim

Thanks Rich. Once again you are providing us with an excellent resource for our business.
Hey Rich if I look back through the several years I have been trying to put together the origami online it is obvious that I have not implemented enough of this system. Funny I do it in our offline bus!
Cheers

Hi Rich,
Like you I have been using the philosophy, “Only when all else fails, follow the instructions.” I have examined just one of the four Casmaps I downloaded and my first thought was, “I know all that!” My second thought was, “Then why am I not rich, like Rich?” My third thought was, “Because I am stupid, I know it, but I don’t apply becuase I am like a butterfly, flitting here and there with no set purpose and no guide to follow.”
Actions speak louder than words, and good intentions fail without intelligent, planned action.
Thanks, Rich, for pulling me up and setting me back on the right road, with the right roadmap.

Rich,
Very good post as usual. I’m sending this link to my subscribers — paying forward.
Rich you hit this one out of the park. We all do this kind of thing. I think alot of it is people are embarrased to ask for help. Even when it is readily available.
As a service technician, a running joke is “when all else fails
read the manual”. Thanks for the plans .

Hi Rich,
That really put things into perspective
Yeah, I’m just one of those guys that fixes toys for my 2 kids without the instruction manual…
sometimes it works,.. great
other time it don’t, I go back to the instruction…
there are some stuff that I head straight to the instruction on matter what. Like those scale model with hundreds of part to put together..
Well, it seems like theres a lesson in everything we do : )
I’m working with my 9 years old our second detailed 1:35 scale model M -18 Hellcat Tank.
There’s life beside internet marketing after all.

The CashMaps are excellent learning tools. Thanks for posting a download for them. It is effective to give people a visual experience so they can process information faster. I’m working on breaking down each section of our Short Sale Real Estate investing techniques into maps similar to these.
Keep up the phenomenal work bro!

Rich, this is just the type of help I need!
You are very gifted in being able to present information in a highly cohesive, organized manner. Thank you for so generously sharing this info and for being a mentor to us! You are much appreciated!
every little bit helps,,,, for some of us (me for example) more then others.
Excellent process maps, thanks Rich! Anybody know who I can hire to get something similar created for my own processes? I’m having a very difficult time finding someone competent in SmartDraw or another mapping program (not mindmapping, as that’s not visually displayed as well) to create very nicely designed process maps. Please add a link back to your website if you offer this type of service.
Rich -
I could not agree more about building processes and systems into everything that you do. Without them, it is very hard to grow.
The Cash Maps you have developed combine great detail, yet are easy to read and implement. I love that you broke out the must haves to go live vs the nice to have, but can add later items. There are so many people that never finish a project because they are looking for perfection. Your maps will help them realize that launching is possible.
I cannot wait to share these maps (through a link of course) with the new business owners I coach.
To your success!
Stephanie

Hi Rich,
Thanks for these great maps. I downloaded them all and they are logically organized, don’t leave out anything and easy to understand. Very good job. Peter
Fabulous! The “Brainmap” for processes. Thank you for making the concept so accessible and deliverable!
Excellent information. Thanks so much will be a big help. I am new as well this puts things into perspective. Thanks for your expertise

Thanks Rich, I love it ! One page overviews that includes
- logical processes,
- check-list,
- links with resources and
- outline numbers behind which I can organize all my bits of paper notes etc., etc.,
It takes all the confusion out of the questions
- what do I do next and
- what have I forgotten.

Thanks again

Has everybody heard the expression “those who fail to plan plan to fail”? Even when we leap off a cliff into the water, as much of an adrenalin rush as it is, we still usually do SOME planning (i.e. by looking for rocks and checking the depth of the water). Keep up the good work Rich and keep planning people but not to the point of “planning inertia” - learn to be wise about when enough is enough i.e. think about the benefits of the extra time and thought you are putting in. And do seek outside opinions and input so you don’t just keep reinforcing your own good ideas complete with any blind spots. The comment about “the benefits of the extra time and thought you are putting in” also applies to outsourcing when appropriate - such as your accountant, lawyer, web designer and so on…….and keep your focus on the core of your business, that’s why you are in it after all.
Rich, Thank you for sharing this important information in such as easy-to-understand format.
Ann
Hi Rich,
Thank you for this straight forward, yet powerful advice. I’m a week or so away from launching my unique family renuion blog, that will allow me to assist, extend and share some of my skills with families who choose to come on board. I will be starting with everyday people around me. My kit is very unique. Your cashmap (in my own words of course) will allow me to create a sensible user manual.I’m starting very small. But there are a lot of families and this will grow! Thank very much. I appeciate it!
A lot of junky overpriced scripts in that process map. Lots of friends of John Reese and Mike Filsaime type viral promotion.
If you followed that process map to build a website, you’d be $5,000 out of pocket on scripts and tools.
Most of the functionality could be duplicated within Wordpress for free. Oh, surprise, surprise, Rich builds his website for free with Wordpress too.
Thanks for the $5,000 website pitch. Great advice to bankrupt newbies. No worries - of 500, two will survive and we can point to those as success stories.
This is not what I would consider one of the more successful and disinterested posts on Rich’s weblog. Process mapping is good, but not when done semi-dishonestly as here.
HI
thanks to yours
i think work at online need money and iam no have money
the money is imporntant things who he want pass and devlopent
thanks
Thanks Rich, I’ve been following your work for some time and find your advice and strategies very powerful. I utilize process flows on a regular basis as a method of training and decision making for my customers and clients.
Thanks again.
Hi Rich,
Your cashmap provides a useful sequenced checklist for us work at home types. However I think the burden of producing diagrams of this quality is probably to much for the average work at homer (like me).
But this does not give us an excuse for not planning, some people might think that planning is a waste of time, but changing a plan is a lot easier and cheaper than changing something that has already been implemented.
So even if you dont like to plan…at least write up a to do list and try to stick to it, ’cause if you dont know where you’re going..chances are you wont get there!
Harry
Hi Rich
How very true, that we’re all guilty of - but isn’t it wonderful having such faith in us, so enjoy it while it lasts! (They grow up all too fast, which is when it stops)
that Cashmap truly looks the business, so nice one Rich, please keep ‘em coming!
Have a great week

Dear Rich,
I can just imagine how thankful my friends will be and most grateful to you - including myself - upon receiving your e-mail and implement the first of its kind CashMaps.
You are truely a value creator.
Thanks a lot.

Anyone who has to deal with technical experts programmers etc knows how easily misunderstandings can occur - sometimes very costly misunderstandings.
Sitting down and using simple process maps can save a lot of heartache and create a great deal of respect from employees and contractors when they realise you’re going out of your way to create overall system clarity.
We’re all guilty of making assumptions at times and doing “the same old thing.” Process mapping is a great way to 1. See the truth in a physical manifestation. 2. Improve the system, the reality and the results.
Slight pain payment learning to work in this new way but WELL worth the effort as it very soon becomes second nature and as well as supercharging your results will astound others.
This is perfect process map.
Simple, easy to understand, readable, pleasing colors and includes everything about “build and optimize website”. Great.
OMG! This is a fantastic piece of work! I can see so many applications for this map. My concern is how overwhelming it can all appear to someone who is starting from scratch.
I looked at the process map and it’s taken me 2 years to understand everything on it, bit by bit, piece by piece, integrating the knowledge as I go.
Had I known what I know now, I would have outsourced everything and saved a hell of a lot of time.
But you know what?
It’s FUN!
Learning about how to integrate the mind-set of internet marketers into everyday business websites has opened my eyes to the number of businesses who have a website presence, and do NOT use these strategies in their own sites. By incorporating a couple of “internet marketing” strategies to their site, they would see a huge impact on their web business with greater turnover.
But you can’t know what you don’t know.
In years to come “up-sells”, “down-sells”, OTO’s, Free offers in exchange for email addresses, (just to name a few) will become the norm in business websites.
Internet Marketers are just ahead of the pack.
Great job Rich and the team for creating something which is both useful and quides us “newbies” down the right path.
I think it really is about impatience. The majority of affiliate marketers I chat with actually understand due process. But they want the money NOW. So we cut corners and deviate from the process that has worked time and time again. And what happens Poor results. Shocking That!
Cashmaps are a great way to build your business using systems. Just like http://www.AcceleratorForSuccess.com is a system for Your “Inner Drive” - Cashmaps are great for your “Outer Expectations.”
Brad and Rich make a great Team!

I’m new to Internet Marketing and trying to get started with little or no money available. So I have been getting information and direction from many many sources. These maps are absolutely great. These maps seem to be just what one needs to keep focused and get things done in a logical manner. Thanks!
Rich:
These maps are totally awesome! In my words, just what a newbie like myself needs to get going in the right direction! Focus, logic and strategy. Now, my turn to execute your plan.
Thanks a bunch!!
