Rich's current Twitter status:at wannadu city with family. Having great time
This is a guest post from THE authority of buzz marketing, the pied piper of the "Killer Bunnies" Dean Hunt from DeanHunt.com - You have been warned, buzz is imminent. Read on...
Hands up if you spotted the intentional spelling error in the title of this blog post?
From tests I did with this exact headline using friends, contacts and family as guinea pigs, only 20% of them spotted the error first time.
You are probably thinking, “But Dean, who cares about a little spelling mistake? Move on!”
Here is the thing… each day I am receiving more and more emails than ever before, thanks to sites like Digg.com and Stumbleupon.com I am reading more web content than ever before, and thanks to YouTube, I am watching more videos of monkeys falling out of trees than ever before.
Have a look at this sign:

Did you read “I love Paris in the springtime”?
If so, you are wrong, go back and read it again… (Answer below)
Did you know that the average 21 year old today has spent 10,000 hours playing video games? Also, they have sent/received an average of 250,000 emails and instant messages.
In fact, the number of text messages sent in a single day, exceeds the population of the entire planet.
It is also estimated that a week’s worth of New York Times contains more information than a person was likely to come across in an entire lifetime in the 18th century.
Please count the “Fs” in the following piece of text.
FINISHED FILES ARE THE RE
SULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTI
FIC STUDY COMBINED WITH
THE EXPERIENCE OF YEARS.
If you answer was 3 or 4 then you are wrong, go back and try again (answer below)

Dean Hunt
PS: It actually reads “I love Paris in the the Springtime”
PPS: There are 6 “Fs”, not 3 and not 4. But most native English speakers will simply glance past them, and in some cases will simply not be able to see them at all.

Nice on Dean. While we’re playing with our brains:
Aoccdrnig to rscheearch at an Elingsh uinervtisy, it deosn’t mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, olny taht the frist and lsat ltteres are at the rghit pcleas. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae we do not raed ervey lteter by ilstef, but the wrod as a wlohe.
I look forward to more posts, your other reports
have been great!
Craig
My Uncle,Professor Fred Scuttle, who worked at that university (Cambridge) at the time said:”it deosn’t mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae”
Oddly enough, the only 2 words in the English dictionary it doesn’t work for are “killer bunnies.”
My uncle was later declared insane and removed from the premises.
Sad but true
Fantastic article. It proves it’s point well; The Internet is huge, long gone are the days where you can write any old rubbish and get noticed, you have to stand out from the crowd.
I liked the way Dean proved this with the clever examples.
Thanks for an enjoyable and entertaining read, I hope to see more from Dean on SP in the near future.
Chris
Hi Dean
I have seen the Fs problem before so I got that right but the Paris sign caught me.
Craig I hate to think how long it took you type the word jumble. It can be understood but people will notice the spelling mistakes.

Hi Paul,
I didn’t come up with it, it’s something I was given when I taught English. It’s floating around the web all over the place and I have no idea who came up with it.
I find I’m normally a sentence or two through it before I notice the words are jumbled. What are other people’s experiences?
Craig
We are becoming so programmed by sms shortcuts , acronyms etc that we accept on a day to day basis that I bet most of you had to read the post again just to find out where you missed the reference to Paris Hilton and the Killer Bunnies. You didnt see it ? Man u need your eyes tested. Mind u i.m.h.o Paris Hilton is hardly “killer” or a bunny.
To make your blog stand out from the crowd you need to provide good content—like Paris Hilton going to jail. Or Britney Spears getting attacked by killer bunnies.
This is my opinion only and you can take it or leave it but the people who correctly saw the misspelling in the headline may be a bit overly anal retentive and will not find much humour(gee now I don’t know if I spelled humour correctly) in killer bunnies attacking Britney.
Good job Dean
Michael - I doubt they will find the reference to “killer bunnies” in the article, it is tricky to find.
Thanks for the kind words everyone.
I will be following up with some great techniques and tricks to create powerful web content.
Dean
Dean,
I’m new to blogging and the whole buzz/killer bunny concept. Your post is very effective in making me realize I need to (this adage is really worn out) “work smarter, not harder” at creating attention-grabbing content. You can expect me to follow your work closely in the coming weeks and months as I ramp up on some new projects. Thanks for providing content that is an excellent example of the point it seeks to illustrate.
Laura
I get caught by the title and by the Paris sentence though I think killer bunnies just added one by the time I re-read it), but I found the 6 F.
I read every articles on Dean’s blog, this is really great infos, it make me look like this : http://deanhunt.com/this-is-what-happens-when-you-read-deanhuntcom/
I already read and apply some of the tips in the Web Traffic Orgasm reports I got during the last weeks and it clearly improved my traffic.
Standing out from the crowd is something that can be learnt and that’s a fantastic weapon against your competitors.
Thanks Dean.
Killer Bunnies are incredibly vicious, only defendable against when wielding a Holy Hand Grenade near Antioch.
Kinda like buzz marketing from Dean.
Dean, I’ve never played the killer bunnies card game, but I can say without a doubt that your advice is way more magical than the carrots in that game. I somehow overlooked the missing T, but I got the rest. The double ‘the’ is classic and I only got a few F’s at first, but knew I missed some and got them before I decided I was done looking. For some reason people tend to overlook the F’s in of.
You might want to hire Elmer Fudd to help you out… before the wabbits get YOU! Thanks as always for the great tips and legal buzz!
John
Dean,
Great post, but I gotta go and watch some videos of monkeys jumping from trees on top of some *@#*&*# killer bunnies in an attempt to rid the world of those @*&#^&* critters.
How many “f’s” in that sentence?
Mark
I hate those word plays - I missed the spelling in title, didn’t get the Paris one and only saw 3 F’s and now Mark is talking about killer bunnies - this is too much for me - my brain hurts!
Chris
Wow! It’s good to be The Dean!
See, when I mis-spelled words, added too many words to sentences, or used too many “F”s in class, I got sent to the principal’s office! Dean does it, and he gets a million bucks!
I shouldn’t post this here because (with all respect to Steven Wright) it’s a small blog but I’d sure hate to taint it.
I’m very enjoy reading this content.
Thank you for good information
Great post. I caught all of the errors but I think it has more to do with the school days I spent at my mother’s kitchen table doing “Mom’s School” after dinner, reviewing grammar, spelling and the like. Still fear the wooden spoon so I really pay attention!
In this age of in-attention, sadly it’s the mistakes that capture our attention the most - whether intentional or not. I had a copywriting friend tell me once that there were things that could be done on a salespage that didn’t follow the normal rules of grammar. Strange but true.
The f’s got me, only counted 3. That’s because uboslavians like me count 1,2,3 and anudder one. In uboslavia there are no killer bunnies but we do have more than our fair share of killer slugs that slime you to death if they catch you. Deaths from killer slugs in uboslavia = zero.
Fun article.
bring on the buzz!!!
Dean,
We are grateful to have Marketing Mavens like yourself and Rich to guide us through the merciless salvos of never-ending attempts to grab and keep our precious Attention, while simultaneously providing us with the proper “ammunition” to use these same tactics to our own advantage…
The examples you’ve provided are “the proof of the pudding” that you’re the “real deal.” I missed the mis-spelling the first time, and even though I’ve seen a similar “count the F’s” puzzle, I still missed two of them!
-You
also got
me with the
the “Paris” sign!
Why, armed with the kinds of Marketing tactics we can learn from the two of you, we could single-handedly rout an army of killer bunnies!
HAH! You got me Dean! Amazing
Wonderful article and even better report from webtrafficorgasm.com…
I’m glad I gave my email address for that.
