I found your poem to be very inspiring and I cannot believe no else has posted that is inspred them!

When I have a problem I am going to think of your poem and how much you have to deal with and my problems will seem small.

I am sorry but I did not like Margarets essay as much as Thomases.’ It seemed to me that she was brown nosing and it did seem to be that creative either. Rich did you pick her’s becasue she brown nosed you?

Hello Rich,

Here is AN OTHER ONE, who is not as young as your FIRST choice, yet she looks forward to accomplishments and realization of her Dreams, Goals and much More.

Here is AN OTHER ONE you have to choose,
I trust you are not going to refuse, for she is ready to go to the FUTURE – YOU, RICK, may be the maker of that FUTURE.

I was born in the U.S.S.R. (Ukraine), the country that called itself the ” Worker’s Paradise”, which is as the World now knows, was the biggest lie of the Millennium.

But the masses were brainwashed to believe it was true – only few knew that the real Paradise existed only for the Members of the Communist Party, who occupied the premises of the shot or of the incarcerated Aristocrats and/or of the Wealthy. The members of the Communist party were also supplied with all the luxuries, while the masses had hardly enough food to exist.

My father came from the family of the White Army Officers, whose members were shot by the Communists. He too was marked to be eliminated but he managed to escape under the blanket of darkness, thanks to a former employee, who turned Communist, but was still faithful to my father, who then was able to get “lost” in the big city amongst the proletariat working on the constructions of the factories, etc.(It was possible to do so at the time: the country was stil in a chaos and yound and the Workers were not registered.)

To cover up his past and his traces my father moved every few months from one rooming house to another and from one city to another. I was born during that turmoil and my life was as such for a long time.

I was not able to finish higher education in my native Land because of “the sins of my father” – the search for the “enemies of the people” was always on, everybody was checked, we lived all the time in fear, hence I never applied. I was left with physical and emotional scars for life but I was alive hoping and praying (which was against the law) for a better life, which eventually came when I came to North America.

Although life was not easy at first handling three jobs and learning the language (on my own – there were no ESL Schools at the time) but I enjoyed the freedom and I was looking forward to a bright future. Unfortunately I did not marry a man, who lived up to his responsibilities and had to bring up our children by myself. Now they are on their own and doing well and I intend to do the same.

I am on my way to the BRIGHT FUTURE: So far I was able to put together my autobiographical book, which I need to get out into the World; I have discovered the Internet; I am enthusiastic and determined; I have the opportunity and the burning desire to get there sooner or later. I would like to get there sooner. I would be able to do it with your help, Rich. If not I am going to get there on my own – this I promissed myself a long time ago.

“What is your goal?”, you ask.

Dear Rich, my GOAL is to have the financial means to have the time to be able to SPEAK, to write, to REALLY WRITE, to educate the contemporary “masses” in the West about what is it like to live under the dictatorship, under totalitarianism, under the Communism. I read only the other day that China and Russia are plotting against the U.S.A. to undermine the authority of this Great country, which now is the only one powerful leader of Democracy in the World. What other country in the whole world can do that?

This is my GOAL, Rich. To be able to get contact with people who have the same philosophy and with their help to open the mind and “the eyes” of many more.

Sooner or later we all have to leave this beautiful Earth and we all would like to be remembered. How can one achieve this? Achieve the immortality? When one teaches something, then one is always remembered – the name lives on even after one is gone.

You, Rich, are building yourself an immortality with your wisdom, with your reputation, with your generosity and your knowledge in your “Niche”. Rich, help me to do the same in my “Niche”, for this is what I know best and it’s good for Democracy.

In the meantime , while I am working towards my goal, I write articles to the Editors, participate in some discussions where it counts but it’s in a small way. I would like it to be LAUDER, I would like to be HEARD – I was there: I know first hand what is it like.

While I am working towards my GOAL I count my blessings:
I am thankful for every day I am here,
For my good fortune and the ability to see and hear,
For my good health, for hidden strength,
for Faith and the Wisdom of the older age.

I know you said you were only passing through, but still had a few comments for anyone else interested in this dialogue.

First, no apologies necessary. If someone didn’t like my entry or liked it less than another, well, I still want to thank you.

That’s what makes life fun and interesting and how we learn what will be effective out there in the big, bad world. If enough people “don’t like”, well, then we don’t have a go-to-market idea.

Contests like this would never work if everyone liked the same thing. We would all pick the same winner, so what fun would there be? That’s why this was fun. To see what others said about the entries and how closely did those comments match Rich’s choice.

From my individual perspective, if I was sensitive to someone not liking my entry, I would never be successful. A comment either a “like” or “don’t like” is just that…a comment about my work, not about me as a person. So, I just need to keep working to improve, if it is not well received.

Here is one the main tenets I try to teach my children. I can choose to let you impact my work through your comments, but I hope I would be much more selective about letting someone impact who I am as a person.

Did I just blow off your comment? No!

I thought a lot about what you said, as I do both positive and negative comments. They are equally useful and encouraging. If it’s all high fives and kudos all the time, how will you know you need to improve…and we all do.

I’m not really sure your perspective, but, yes, I was brown nosing. Isn’t that ONE way to get someone to do what you want?

In regards to the creativity, I think that creativity is kind of like beauty, “in the eye of the beholder”. I was focused more on just speaking from my heart and using effective copywriting techniques than on creativity.

Just my thoughts…what do you say?

My first reply to your comment was made in anger. Something I usually try to avoid since sometimes the reasons we get angry have to do with our not facing something about ourselves that we need to.

After sleeping on it, I have seen a certain amount of wisdom to destroying animals who have “out lived” their usefulness. With that in mind I trust you will appear for the defense should I off (humanely and painlessly of course) my father who is far more ill than any of the animals.. having a dissected aorta which is inoperable. His mind is not what it used to be and he has trouble remembering much other than his favorite cat who he asks about pretty much on a daily basis. He has lost the ability to walk on his own although he can still feed himself. I am not sure I can find any life redeeming use for the old man so it stands to reason that he should be put down. (people are animals too in case you are feeling superior.)
Fortunately, Mom is still able to be of “use” since she can still quilt a little, not much but some, she is also quite ill but her mind is still sound so even if her production rate is falling off, she can still teach.
By your definition of “real” decisions, we could probably save the state a lot of money since we could put down all those who have disabilities or illness’ that keep them from being productive and contributing something useful to society. Now we come to the real problem, who is to decide who is of use and who is not? The criteria I suppose must include only farmers who for the most part have little “use” for those who toil with their minds rather than their hands. It is common knowledge that the intellegencia .. those who teach in institutes of higher learning live in their own world apart from the “productive” sectors of “real” life. (and what do we need great thinkers for? Don’t they all live in another world that is not weighed by their productivity of physical production? What use are they?)
Whoever it falls to, I hope you are put down with as much compassion as you seem to have for the other animals in the world when your turn comes.

Obviously I have little hope of any helping hand from people who only value human life and not all life… The animals were here before we were and we are in our greed destroying their habitats at an alarming rate, but then I suppose we are making better “use” of their natural resources by using them up than they are by using what they need to survive. So I thank you for making me realize it is as it has always been, up to me to create the income I need to support a family with growing need and dwindling resources.
