Gary talked to the everyday person trying to make a mark. I really liked his reassurance and the point he was making about branding.

Thanks Rich 4% for giving us these snippets -- they have been motivating and inspiring.

Janet couldn't be there... apparently she was ill and couldn't make it. However, to fill the time Tom McCarthy had us hold a kind of mastermind session where we each talked about our business challenges, and the other people on the table would brainstorm ideas. This was a great exercise and everyone found it very helpful, including me. This was also a great networking opportunity... we should do it on every seminar!

:) That snippet from Gary was excellent, & of course he is exactly right.... always fun to watch too ;)

Great example of what Gary was talking about is the Paul Potts video, he was an overnight sensation & is now a household name, in most countries & his videos have been viewed my millions... from selling telephones in a mall to signing million dollar contracts... sounds good to me! :)

Always been a little shy myself, will have to get over that now won't I ....

What happened with Janet Switzer? I was particularly interested in her material, but notice that her picture disappeared from the blog site and there is no video of her appearance. Did she present and is her presentation included in the videos?

Don't seek the star, be the star. One of my favorite quotes/mottoes. I think Gary is right, you have to build yourself up as a personality, and one in your own right (name droppers will never be remembered for who they are). Just look at how people follow so-called celebrities, who are famous just for appearing on TV 'reality' shows, some of which are the entertainment equivalent of watching paint dry. Make yourself a little more memorable, and away you go! One of the best examples I can think of is Salvador Dali. He happened to be a skilled artist, but his fame is based on his eccentric image, which he adopted deliberately to get over his shyness, and which eventually made him what his image portrayed. For lasting fame, you will have to offer something of real value, but the branding is an essential part of standing out from the crowd.
Gary's talk reaffirmed my choice of name for my website. Thanks, Gary.

So, if we seek out endorsements from marketing gurus, then are we building THEIR brands? We are stating in effect that these people are important people, and that they are important enough to be on our products, and that our products are really good, because these people endorse them. We are not fully building our brands, we are building the guru's brands as well. Which tends to diminish our own brands.
Just a thought.
