Wow, Gary really summed it up! I’ve been kind of on-the-fence about being the “face” of my brand, but I think I’m clear now! :-)
Gary’s idea that so many of us are “building the brand of people who are ahead of us” was very powerful. It got to the heart of Rich and Jay’s core idea: doing what everyone else is doing/following the leaders vs. becoming a leader, breaking out and being a Maven. It really got me thinking more powerfully about where I can branch off from what’s already going on and focus on building my brand–very exciting!
Thanks for these videos, Rich and Jay! This one is my favorite so far!
I am in awe of people who live life audaciously, especially if they are ‘for real’, as they liberate the rest of us to do the same. Now, maybe I’m dating myself here, but Gary’s talk, and the front-footed way he’s challenging us to step out, reminds me of that face toy where you drag a magnetic pencil across a guy’s face and all the metal filings line up where you lead them. Each one of us can create our own ‘unique face’ in the market if we dare… and create a magnetic following if we will just sharpen the pencil and get on with the design… Way to go Varnychuk!
Congratulations Rich.
It is clear that you have organised a great conference and I am looking forward to seeing the full DVDs.
Great little presentation from Gary as well. You can feel his passion and enthusiasm come through.

All comments on my tribute to Rich’s career to date are greatly appreciated along with ratings. It is designed for people who have not yet discovered his magic.
Most of the participants in the conference are raving about Gary Vee! He is right, the way to go into the future is a combination of web 2.0 social marketing skills + internet marketing.
I summed up my learnings in my blog. I love his quotable quotes.
Really, really awesome stuff.
As an ads person turned internet entrepreneur who has worked with the big brands, its refreshing to see those principles starting to gain traction with the ’small guys’.
The best presentation I’d seen so far.
Wow, awesome video. Thank you so much. It change my thinking about Web 2.0.
Watch this guy! I love every show on WineLibraryTV and it’s because Gary is a REAL person, doing what he loves and it shows. Thanks to Rich & Jay for sharing with all of us who couldn’t be there these fabulous tidbits. Thanks to Gary for more inspiring words!
I’ll be watching and taking your advice!
Dont get me wrong, these guys are great marketers. I just do not understand the hype here? I have watched all the videos here and see what is just common knowledge. This guy is not a “guru” but what I have seen of his free videos, I am impressed. http://www.themindauthority.com/blog . These videos here are just 2-3 min videos of information everyone should know and set in a pep rally like environment. Idk though, call me crazy I guess. :)
So, if we seek out endorsements from marketing gurus, then are we building THEIR brands? We are stating in effect that these people are important people, and that they are important enough to be on our products, and that our products are really good, because these people endorse them. We are not fully building our brands, we are building the guru’s brands as well. Which tends to diminish our own brands.
Just a thought.
Don’t seek the star, be the star. One of my favorite quotes/mottoes. I think Gary is right, you have to build yourself up as a personality, and one in your own right (name droppers will never be remembered for who they are). Just look at how people follow so-called celebrities, who are famous just for appearing on TV ‘reality’ shows, some of which are the entertainment equivalent of watching paint dry. Make yourself a little more memorable, and away you go! One of the best examples I can think of is Salvador Dali. He happened to be a skilled artist, but his fame is based on his eccentric image, which he adopted deliberately to get over his shyness, and which eventually made him what his image portrayed. For lasting fame, you will have to offer something of real value, but the branding is an essential part of standing out from the crowd.
Gary’s talk reaffirmed my choice of name for my website. Thanks, Gary.
What happened with Janet Switzer? I was particularly interested in her material, but notice that her picture disappeared from the blog site and there is no video of her appearance. Did she present and is her presentation included in the videos?
:) That snippet from Gary was excellent, & of course he is exactly right…. always fun to watch too ;)
Great example of what Gary was talking about is the Paul Potts video, he was an overnight sensation & is now a household name, in most countries & his videos have been viewed my millions… from selling telephones in a mall to signing million dollar contracts… sounds good to me! :)
Always been a little shy myself, will have to get over that now won’t I ….

“Make 2008,Great”
Janet couldn’t be there… apparently she was ill and couldn’t make it. However, to fill the time Tom McCarthy had us hold a kind of mastermind session where we each talked about our business challenges, and the other people on the table would brainstorm ideas. This was a great exercise and everyone found it very helpful, including me. This was also a great networking opportunity… we should do it on every seminar!
Gary talked to the everyday person trying to make a mark. I really liked his reassurance and the point he was making about branding.
Thanks Rich 4% for giving us these snippets — they have been motivating and inspiring.
