    • Hey,

Well, we’re getting attention – in spades!

      Hi Rich & team,

checked my video - and it’s blank - in fact black as the ace of spades.

Can anyone see it? It’s in the informational section - Carol Bentley

If anyone is willing to vote for the mystery video, sight unseen I reckon I stand a chance, otherwise… :¬(

BTW - I’m away from my normal access so I’m having to do a slo-ow dial in, but all the other videos appear to be OK.

Is it just my access or have I been ‘blanked out’? ;¬D

      Hey Rich,

      You’ve got my full attention.

So I took the time and effort to read your mail. Then I took some more time and effort to register for Sphinn. Then I invested a wholelotta more time and effort to watch a bunch of videos. Then I hit the Sphinn button to vote for Andrew Lock’s informational and professional video.

      The result?

URL is invalid or blocked: (http://www.strategicprofits.com/66-seconds-informational/andrew-lock/)

      Tried it a second time.

URL is invalid or blocked: (Andrew%20Lock)

So I tried it again, and again, and again, with no luck.

Did I give up? No way!

Still invested more of my time and attention to register my vote.

Why? First: because I really liked Andrew’s style and approach. Second: because I really, really want to get my greedy hands on the call you did with Michael Masterson! That’s why I invested some more time and effort to write this comment.

That’s right, you still got my attention, but it’s fading, rapidly.

To be brutally honest, I don’t mind missing out on a live call with you. And I really believe I can live and prosper without your “Business Acceleration Program”.

But I can’t live with the knowledge I’m missing out on that copy of the special transcript from the call you did with Agora and ETR mastermind Michael Masterson. I KNOW this transcript is sure to take my business to the next level… and way beyond that.

But after investing 90 minutes of my precious time to educate myself (that transcript alone IS absolutely worth it), it’s time to get back to work.

Just thought you deserved to know.

I’m sorry but I don’t agree with offering bribes to vote on a video - surely each video be evaluated on its own merits, not based on a bribe. That is unfair, and Rich should remove posts where individuals offered bribes. In another situation where its not a competition, it could be called an incentive to encourage someone to take an action (which would be fine), but this in this case it’s clearly a bribe.

      WRONG NOT TO BRIBE

so is the winner chosen only by amount of diggs?

cuz it looks pretty easy to game the digging. Wouldn’t be so obvious in the humor category except the leaders are so unfunny.

aside from gaming, if someone has a good responsive list, it looks easy to win.

      so what’s the deal?

p.s. click my name to see some great videos that aren’t in the contest voting for some unknown reason!

Have you thought that maybe you’re wrong? Lesson 1 in marketing: never guess the marketplace. Some of your picks aren’t getting any votes worth speaking of.

As for the gaming, the contestants are getting attention in whichever way they can. I’m not saying gaming the votes is right, but the whole contest is about getting attention. In some cases, it might be about calling in friends and family to vote. Crap, I dugg my friend even though there were better videos.

There should be checks and balances too. You can see the legit votes by the comments. I’m sure Rich and team have other screening criteria too.

Last of all, if Rich is sending in tens (maybe hundreds) of thousands of unbiased site visitors, as he said he would, the gaming shouldn’t matter anyway. Rich might even only count the votes that register with real info on this site.

In any case, don’t sweat it and stop trying to act like like a “guru” authority when no one put you there in the first place.

      Don

      you’re right Victory!

The first thing that came to my mind yesturday:
      create 100 different email addresses
register them with digg it and spphin it
vote for my video or my friend’s video

et, voila I won the game!

Unless they can track IP addresses and check the voters IP addresses then it’s easy to eliminate that factor (still you can trick a bit if you have more than one PC, but it’s a better tracking system).

Anyhow, there are many tricky ways to win if one only cares about winning period. Do I want to win in that frudulant way? I would have easily applied my own trick:-)

      have a nice weekend!
      Amal

      hey future mavens,

ron reed, here, making an appearance…

(( speaking of appearances… it appears we have a few “black-hat” techniques being implemented ))

… in other words, some people have figured out how to ‘cheat’ the system and sway votes to their videos.

      ironically, this will work…

… but you’re not using the techniques that rich schefren is teaching you.

sure, there are ways to get around the system and sway votes to our video, but is that the only way we know how to gain exposure??

in the end, it won’t matter. the true winners of this contest: EVERYONE that took action and got involved.

please keep in mind that rich stated:

      ***********
“We’re going to post your video on our blog. Then we’ll send a mailing to our list of over 150,000 subscribers asking them to come to the blog to vote on the videos.

Once the votes are in, We’ll have a vote here at the office - and we’ll combine the results and announce one Grand Prize winner from EACH of these categories:”
      ***********

so as you can see, having a lot of votes isn’t going to be the determining factor… instead, it will ultimately be a combination of the votes AND internal decisions made by rich & team.

my advice would be to re-read the Attention Age Doctrine.2 and let the strategies REALLY sink in.

here is a summary of the contest:
      #1 — Read Attention Age Doctrine.2
      #2 — Post a video
#3 — Vote for your favorite video

… do you see the commonalities?? do you see the overall picture??

at each stage you had to TAKE ACTION.

rich did a great job of provoking all of us to take action…

… but don’t just stop with this contest. keep the ‘action-ball’ rolling by taking the information you’re learning and implementing them into your business/opportunites/life.

i’ve only seen a few contestants do this. only a select few have really taken advantage of the exposure their getting from this contest.

instead, all i hear is: “my video won’t play”… or… “voters can’t vote on my video”, etc.

… well, have you tried to view anyone else’s video?? have you tried to vote on any else’s video??

(( instead of trying to GET more votes… why not GIVE more votes?? ))

i’m rambling now, but hope everyone understands that this contest is part of a bigger picture… a picture that involves you… a picture that involves your business… a picture that involves the future of your business.

this contest is about using Web 2.0 platforms to gain exposure by taking action.

henry ford states that success is had by:

#1 — Being in the right place at the right time…
      #2 — Recognizing that you’re there…
      #3 — Taking MASSIVE ACTION!

I challenge everyone to keep the action going…

      hey alan,

thank you for responding to my post.

      exactly what i was hoping you’d say…

… anyone using black hat techniques will not help their chances of winning the contest.

Using ONLY the digg votes to decide the winners would make a mockery of the competition. It’s blatantly obvious who’s called in favors from friends and family to vote, because the comments are things like ‘good luck my friend’ etc etc and the worst offenders are videos that are poorly presented!

Rick isn’t only going by the Diggs. He’s not blind. Read the contest rules.

Read the Digg comments, and you can tell which votes are legit too. The ones with similar writing style and repeating (similar) words are a little suspect IMHO.

If your looking at comments, that not-funny guy at http://www.strategicprofits.com/66-seconds-humorous/hoe-bing-lo
has the “best” in 4 of his comment posts - as well as “luck” (as in “good luck”) in 8 out of the 25 comments. Could that be the same person posting comments for himself?

The guy with 55 votes at http://digg.com/business_finance/Buddy_Rathmell_Business_Coaching also repeats dig, dug or digged in 10 out of 15 comments posts - and he doesn’t give a good iinformational video. Hmmm. See a pattern developing?

I completely agree to what you are saying.
Iam also competing and was wondering why they are getting so many votes, when Frankly other videos are much better in terms of

      1.Theme / subject appropriateness
      2.presentation
      3.Creativity
      4.call for action
      5. Music

I had sent my subscriber list of approx 3800
and am finding it difficult to get votes.

anyway, I think the Bogus voters and frauds will be caught properly.

please see my video and tell me if it makes some sense. and if you like , vote for me.

      Victory -

DID RICH SCHEFREN BAN MY VIDEO? YES! (see link above on my name). (leave me a comment if you like it!)

Yes Victory (love that name), he has attempted to silence my video.

But I did everything just as he asked. I did a video on my take away and I promoted his doctrine while at the same time applying his “doctrine of attention” for myself. I even spent the last 6 seconds SHOWING HIS SITE URL and promoting his video!

MAYBE HE DIDN’T LIKE MY FOLLOW UP VIDEO TO THE CONTEST VIDEO? (link below…give it a title…PLEASE!)

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F29NLiN2dbI

I guess I hit a nerve. Some “contest”.

I suppose he should have thrown in the rules something like:
“and if you have anything to say besides how great my doctrine is, then your video will be SILENCED!”

New take away??? I’ll keep it to myself this time. But the word “integrity” comes to mind. Yeah, it’s HIS contest. But it’s also a free market and he should be willing to have his ideas held up to the fire…THAT is the POWER of Web 2.0. I have a feeling he takes it for granted. It seems like a money trip to him.

To each his own, I say!
      Peace and love

      Hi All,

Are you worried about Black Hat techniques using Diggs to win this competition? If you are, then don’t be - you may have missed the point Rich was making (and so did the Black Hatters!):

If you’re not honest in your marketing, you *WILL* be found out.

The current videos that have high Diggs - automated or favours called in by friends - won’t win once *real* people cast their votes. Personally, I watched the first 10 seconds of Hoe Bing Lo’s video and hit the back button. Your market will do the same thing if your content isn’t compelling or any good. And if it is worth watching, then you don’t need to worry because people will recommend it anyway.

And I agree with Danny when he mentions “integrity”. In this day and age you shouldn’t be thinking about Internet Marketing you should be thinking about Integrity Marketing.

The real winners are the people who understand this concept. The ones that know this and apply it don’t need to win the contest - they’ll become Mavens in their own right in time (although introductions to high class marketers would help!).

I’m going to reframe the video situation here and suggest that maybe we *should* vote for the low quality, poor content videos. Why? Because, let’s face it - they’re the people who really need to learn how to be honest in their business.

The truth is, even if those people did win, they would never become true Mavens or excel in their niche (and people still wouldn’t buy from them). They don’t understand the concepts enough to apply them properly. They will always be “out of tune” with their market and no-one will trust them enough to buy from them. Word of mouth is the most powerful force today - you can’t win a market by using dishonest practices.

I’m just going to give you an example of an excellent Maven: have a look on the right hand side of Rich’s blog and find the link to Andy Beard on the blogroll. Aside from being a good friend of mine, speaking objectively I’d say Andy is one of most honest and outspoken people in his niche as well as having integrity. His insightful opinions and objections to common trends makes him stand out. If you want the truth then Andy’s your man. Bottom line: Andy is someone I trust and highly recommend.

What makes him different is his passion and commitment to deliver the best information - no holds barred - and being honest enough to speak his mind. He doesn’t just sell anything - only what he believes in. His credibility, honesty and trustworthiness is something we can all learn from - you don’t have to just look at what Rich does.

After all, why do you think Rich values Andy’s opinion’s enough to put him on his blogroll?

And that’s the point. There *are* people out there who are excellent that you can learn from - not just Rich.

Don’t get me wrong - I love Rich’s stuff. Enough to be part of his BGS program and also to attend his Acceleration seminar earlier this year. What Rich can teach you is simply mindblowing.

My biggest takeaway this year wasn’t a pizza - it was “the power of focus”, from the Acceleration seminar. Since I cut out reading just any old spam emails, I even cut out all of the emails that Rich sends and only scan things now. As a consequence, I missed out on the whole competition thing but instead of feeling like I missed out I went ahead and made a video anyway!

Why? Because it has taught me some very important skills about video and video distribution. It was also a whole lot of *fun* to do!

Rich has outlined the “how-to’s” and I now have a very powerful tools to use in my marketing efforts. If you didn’t make a video, I’d still recommend making one - there’s going to be a whole load of traffic coming this way and people looking for the Attention Age videos.

Anyway, if you’d like to check out my “entry” I’d really appreciate it. WARNING: the video is not for the squeamish - I bend my thumb backwards (all the way round).

PS: Danny… did you consider that your video got banned because it’s 2:33 long? You know that the content rules state that it should only be 66 seconds!

Zain, you must have clicked on the follow up video and not that actual contest video….Click on my name above for the 66 second video that I entered into the contest.

It was SILENCED. Plain and simple. I would love for someone to tell me why he did that. I would say “oversight” but it’s gotten more views than ANY OTHER VIDEO in this contest!

      So here it is again…

That’s weird… my first post didn’t appear - is that because it had a link in it and needs to be approved or was it just too long?

Unfortunately the Digg voting wasn’t handled very well. If the videos had been given good titles they could have generated a LOT of attention from the digg community.

Despite the lack of naming creativity I noticed that Andrew Lock’s superb ‘movie trailer’ video got a lot of attention on the main digg page and received loads of diggs, but it had been miscategorized under ‘biz’ which meant the digg community began unfairly burying it beause they didn’t feel it was ‘business’ related.

Rich’s team should’ve prepared the digg titles to maximize their potential exposure. Shame.

Anomaly Alert — the number of Digg’s indicated on the video category pages don’t correspond with the actual Digg’s the video’s have on Digg itself, e.g., my video “A History of Attention in 60-seconds” has 10-Digg’s yet on the Compelling page it’s showing that it has zero.

Perhaps if folks could see that there were 10-Diggs they might be inclined to watch it. And maybe even vote for it.

      Just sayin’ you know.

      Rich,

When will the voting be cut off? When will the winners be announced?

      OK guys.

Forget gaming the system and forget the complaints.

When I saw some of the videos with a high number of diggs my initial reaction was also anger.

“Stupid me - instead of spending a whole day on planning and making a video I should have learnt how to game Digg”

But I don’t want to learn how to game Digg or Google Adsense or Youtube.

I want to build a good, solid business based on longlasting strategies. If Rich and his team choose people based solely on Diggs maybe he’ll end up with the wrong kind of people at his seminar, maybe not. It’s up to him.

If you want to be angry with Rich and people you suspect of gaming Digg you should channel that anger in a positive way, think along the lines of

“I’ll show them!! I don’t need a guru and blackhat tactics!”

And build your business and then in a year’s time you can say
“Rich, you didn’t choose me in your competition - you missed a great opportunity.”

Also, just bear this in mind. Compare how much action you took for this competition (making a video, joining tubeMogul and other sites, using digg and sphinn, posting on blogs, promoting your video) and compare that to any one month in the last year and see which was more productive.

At age 22, Rich's very first business involved taking over a failing clothing store, which at that time, was doing 1.5 million dollars in sales (even though the breakeven was a whopping $3 million!) Within three years, the store was cranking in well over $6.5 million - with 25% of it dropping directly to the bottom line!
