Rich's current Twitter status:at wannadu city with family. Having great time
Wow!
In less than 24 hours The Attention Age Doctrine has already been downloaded by over 21,538 online business builders.
Over 700 of them joined me as this afternoon when the legendary marketing genius Jay Abraham interviewed me for his elite private clients. And we have over 1,623 entrepreneurs who’ve registered for tomorrow's call. Amazingly enough (since we are always operating on the "bleeding edge" of technology) so many internet marketers have been downloading the doctrine (over a hundred downloaders at any given moment) many experienced a very slow download speed.
To remedy the situation we added two additional servers, and we’ve quadrupled our already substantial bandwidth.
So, if you personally had any problems downloading, I apologize for that... and my team has fixed the problem.
You can go get it now – right here.
And the feedback I've been getting is amazing. Both the good and the bad...
Look, whenever I release a report I get all types of feedback – both positive, and negative. It comes with being at the forefront. When you can get people talking about you –good or bad – it means you have the market's attention and this is exactly what I was talking about in The Attention Age Doctrine. I explained in the personal note in the beginning of the Doctrine that due to timing I was forced to release an unfinished version. This may have been unclear for some who might have rushed through the doctrine based on a few emails I’ve received. Just so we’re clear it means that the 60+ pages is not the whole document, in fact it’s not even half of it, there’s a lot more coming.
So, in case someone reading missed that point… -- This is not the completed version -- There is no hidden agenda or top secret conspiracy to leave out information (LOL) -- The material released so far is the foundation and it’s critical to understand in its entirety to be able to profit from what’s coming. So while I appreciate that some marketers and friends have tried to summarize my document – they are not doing the marketplace any good – because the strategies, tactics and big “ah-has” and takeaways are coming in the next segment of the doctrine. While the manifesto trilogy was written in a way that each one stood on its own – the doctrine was meant to be one complete report.
Yet, I deliberately released just the first sections prematurely to the marketplace because: As I stated in the Doctrine - based on the advice I received from Jay Abraham I would have done many a disservice had I not given them the opportunity to understand my current thinking and take advantage of the upcoming event, which is now less than two weeks away. Based on the flood of sales that came in today for the July event it seems obvious many appreciated the invitation given in the early release of the unfinished doctrine.
There are two things I would like you to do from here:
1 – Listen to the call with Jay Abraham (it’s the best explanation of what my current thoughts are) here
2 – Although the doctrine is not complete I would really like to hear your thoughts – please post your comments to my blog, right here. (I read each and every single comment each and every day)
Hi Rich
Fantastic. You have in the first part of this article encapsulated very succinctly a lot of things that have concerned me, about time management. The additional information and statistics are amazing.
Thank you for part one and I wait with bated breath to find where you take us from here.
You are a legend

Hi Rich,
I read it and I love it, love it, love it. It’s 60+ pages of solid, valuable information.
Thanks
Albert
Thanks Rich for giving so generously. I hope part 2 is coming soon.
I can understand peoples frustration with this document, it’s because they know how good your stuff is and want the useful practical bits now. There are some big promises in the intro and throughout the report which aren’t met (of course thats because that part is coming soon!) but after 3 hours or so to get it downloaded and reading cover to cover into the early hours, I was left feeling a bit empty and disappointed. Not with the material or the quality but just because, for someone who’s been through your program, the theory isn’t new and I was so excited that there would be something new “to do” at the end and I’d cleared my desk for that.
Anyway, once again for making this available. My personal suggestion would have been to wait until it was finished but then you know what you’re doing and can’t wait to get the tasty stuff.
Rich,
I saw your incredible presentation at the JV Alert in
Orlando this past February.
Everything that you have written so far, including
your latest - The Attention Age Doctrine - is nothing
less than amazing.
I’m looking forward to the completed version with
great anticipation!

Hi Rich,
Thank you once again. Each time I have delved into one of your reports, I am immediately struck with the knowledge that, “here is a 500 level and above business course. Pure Gold!” I was one of the slow downloads last night (approximately 2 hours of actual download time spread over 6 hours. Connection kept being reset) so I haven’t completed reading it yet. But I am far enough into it to know that your views are predicting trends that I also saw back in 1975 when I was in school. Mine were very much more general but I know we are on course for the fullfilment of those predictions. What really pleases me is that while I saw some of the trends, you are showing how we can profit from them. Much more important, useful and valuable.
Thank you again for your fine work. And it is definitely worth the wait on the download.
Ken
Rich, i take my hat off to you.
A superbly written, eloquent verbalization of what every serious Internet
marketer and information worker on the planet sensed,on some level, was unfolding..
you’ve actually named it, and tamed it, well done.
now, through your insight, we get the opportunity to look at this phenomenon cognitively, understand it.. and succeed.
By far the best half hour i thought i was going to waste
Thanks
Rob
Australia.
Hi Rich,
You have a knack for hitting the nail on the head for sure!
We’ve all become “Informationally obese” due to the overload of information coming at us every day.
Personally I’m getting somewhat tired of being played as the Big Dog’s hypnotic copy guinea pig and wouldn’t mind seeing less of this. Save the hypnotics for the non-marketer-looking-for-a-deal-on-dog-food clients and give those struggling to make a dollar a break.
Ok so maybe they CAN sell ice to eskimos, but I don’t think there are too many eskimos trying to market online.
Oh and we don’t need any more of the “My great guru mentor tells me I should help more people” line either. We all know that means they’ll be charging big bucks for their kindness.
It’s good someone is finally ready to teach people how to focus instead of creating the usual feeding frenzy.
Everyone is already equipped with everything they ever need to know. They just need to focus and learn to trust their own abilities and talents.
Looking forward to part 2
Oh and sorry for the rant
Your ideas also apply to today’s students and their study habits, Rich.
My son is a recent high school graduate, and it unnerves me how he “studies” — with music on, IM going, texting or calling his friends, Facebook open, etc. He’s an “A” student, but this seems to be a normal way for Millenials to take in and process information. What happened to the “old days” when we’d want peace and quiet to read and study? It’s a concern for me as a parent as to where it will all lead. Will the future leaders in government, business and industry all be like this as well? When will anyone take time to think decisions big and small through if there are constant distractions all around? The thought is a little scary IMHO.
Mr Schefren
You consistently provide a wealth of well structured and researched information … I wholeheartedly agree with your comments on the hype gurus …( I have somehow or other allowed to pop up in my in box! … and whilst reading your first instalment I was worried that you had gone to the ‘dark side’ ,as your use of certain graphical features etc are highly reminiscent of the those hype guru documents…)
Having said that though , I am keen to hear more and more from you…Your work has in many ways provided a deft mix of contemporaneous theory and practice as it pertains to both the internet and business in general. Your preparedness to provide reputable sources for the views you hold as you well recognize, sets you apart , and sets a benchmark which this burgeoning industry surely needs. .. due to my professional commitments though I will not be able to attend your conference in July… Do you think that the actual proceedings might be made available for people such as me who aren’t able to attend? I live and work in Australia..so the tyranny of distance prevails… Also I hope there is an easy way for me to be online to hear your Jay Abraham talk… time zones are a challenge to the goofy people (like me)… Please keep the good work up… your work creates momentum.. Thank you.p.s Think about the Australian market …? Small fish are sweet…:-)
Hi Richard, I experienced a range of feeling during the reading of this report. I felt interrupted in the earlier part of the document which seemed quite heavy on a super hyped sales pitch.
That makes me reluctant to want to share it with anyone.
On the other hand as I got deeper in, I got a lot of really good information.
Thank you so much for that.
Observing your marketing technique from above I would have to say you did a super job of establishing a problem foe everyone who reads it. You build a sense of yourself as being able to provide a solution.
So all in all I think it is both a useful study and a effective marketing effort. I just can’t help but wonder though if a characteristic of the attention age will be the demise of long winded over-hyped sales letter written in a similar tone to the intro to your report.
For me now the thing I must consider (without interruptions) is whether I would like your prize (which I would dearly dearly love) more than embarrassment of promoting a document which contains so much selling and leaves people without too many options for the rest of the report.
I am sure by now you are accustomed to criticism, I hope you understand that I am being frank in a effort to improve your customers experience.
Regards Dean
Great analysis and as I now eagerly wait for next installment, I must admit that I’m an information junky. Lol
Quick question: is the upcoming interview going to be available for mp3 download (as I’m very far away from US)
Thanks again for the awakening
Erik
I hate to say it Rich — it took me hours and maybe 30 interruptions to work my way through it! I’m as bad as anyone, probably worse!
First off, Rich I just want to say you are a true visionary. You see what many others do not and that’s one of the reasons you’re so successful. Your report is a real wake up call for me personally. Awesome du– oh, sorry, just a sec… I gotta take this call. One minute…
Ok, I’m back… where were we at now?
Umm…
So, yeah, good report. Neat stuff. Uh…
Seriously, though, The Attention Age… pretty cool man. Very true.
Where does it all lead, Rich?
To a seminar… a product (LOL)?
I’m interested to see. 8 figures… you’re on it man.
Where does it all lead?
A pine box… a mention in the local newspaper?
Of course, who am I to talk? What have I done? How will I be remembered?
I’m certainly not on YOUR level… I’m just a peon… right?
I think it’s time someone made a stand for REALLY helping people.
You’ve made a bold stand. You are a powerful man. Your insights are genius and extremely valuable…
And, for what purpose?
Where does it all lead?
To a seminar?
Ultimately, however, it’s not about answering me OR anyone else! You must stand for what you believe…
But stand, Rich!
STAND!
I see you now with the ability to LITERALLY transform the world and impact millions of people’s lives… powerfully.
What comes next?
No matter what, Rich… Thank You!
You are a tremendous human being… and I can’t even begin to imagine what you face on a daily basis to bring your value to the world. The doubters, haters, criticisms…
I can’t even imagine.
Keep rolling, man!
At least one person here is rooting for you!
To your vision…
John Morris
Thanks Rich, It was just like you have been sitting here watching me as I go through life. I get many interuptions hourly. I then have to sit for a minute to get my mind focused on what I was doing to get it completed.Very hard to do and get
it done right.
Mel Smith
Hi Rich…
I’ve been a loyal subscriber to your list ever since you launched the Internet Business Manifesto…and although i have not had the funds to fly over to the US (I’m an Aussie) to attend your seminars and business training, i’ve always payed close attention to the free information you deliver…and this time, as always, i feel you really have delivered on a big scale.
I must say, I’ve spent some considerable time attempting to make it online…but am yet to set my focus and attention on just 1 project (of the many, too many!!) till absolute fulfillment (and profitable).
Your report really hits the nail on the head and exposes many of the vicious cycles and patterns that prevent so many (like myself) from succeeding in this industry…and it’s almost an exact track record of my own experience as a relatively new internet marketer.
However I’m now far more aware of the self sabotaging habits i can sometimes go through as i work towards building my business.
Anyway…thought I’d post a comment and thank you personally for the time, money and effort you put into your free materials…I always treat them as though i paid good money for..because i know the value of your words.
I look forward to the rest of the doctrine….
All the best,
Jarrah
Hi Rich,
Brilliantly lucid piece of work, well done again!
Looking forward to seeing you at the Seminar and I’m telling all my coaches they have to read this material. It has BIG implications for coaches around the world.
Thanks Rich

Hi Richard
Re: your report
It has many color pictures and describes elements of information overflow.
It also solves NOTHING.
On Net we find more acute problems than infomation overflow.
Also - there is no solutions to those problems that cannot be solved.
When engaging in in describing the problem rather than solving - one only contributes to aggravating the problem.
Rich, Great (Part 1) Report!
PLEASE CONSIDER to provide the interview with Jay in mp3 for people like me not in US.
Thanks a lot,
Carlos
Rich,
Well, you didn’t lie about the part where you said ” I love to write” ! Geez, 30 pages of hype!
Ok, waiting for the next installment……hope it GET’S TO THE POINT!!
Rich, while the great majority of information which forms the basis of part one of your paper is already quite well known, I acknowledge your effort at taking a stab at providing a perspective in a fairly creative manner, albeit with strained conclusions. Hopefully part two of your musings will shed a brighter light on these topics.
Meanwhile, for your consideration, allow me to share with you three dissimilar conclusions which may reasonably be drawn from this same basic information.
1. Increased technological interaction does not result in anyone getting any dumber, as you put it. Rather, as attention is serially shifted and refocused in a manner which you presently interpret as interruptive, you are actually providing yourself with broader access and increased range of functionality.
2. Interruption, as you interpret your imagery, does not decrease attention span. As you provide yourself with broader access and increased functionality, your attention is reoriented accordingly. The fly in the ointment is that you have tried to twist the incredible goings on within technology and within consciousness into a rather narrow and restricted marketing context.
3. There are not too many options or choices and there is no paradox of choice - although choice may well result in some degree of confusion, as your paper amply illustrates. You may not know what to choose, in what order. However, objectively being aware that you have choice is quite significant as it provides you with evidence that you actually direct your own energy.
At bottom, recognize that technological rise is a reflection of that which you already generate internally; technology is not actually in reality happening to you.
Take care
Yes, there’s a lot of noise out there. I’m not sure attending a $3000/seminar is the only way to cut through it.
I concur with the people above - unlike the previous three manifestos - The Attention Age Doctrine is more sales pitch than anything else. Perhaps part two will rectify the solution. Not sure what the takeaway is from part one. Perrhaps: Don’t sell crap. Don’t make noise. Tell it to your own clients first!
Elsewhere you have told us to stop reading marketing emails and start reading quality business books and biographies. Good advice.
Cheers Rich, great report but took me ages to read as I kept being interupted
What I’m finding very disturbing is….
how SO many people of buying into these over-hyped, over-priced marketing exercises…One marketing launch, after the next after the next….They’re treating some sort of intervention as a cure-all for what are fundamentally THEIR behavioral choices.
Instead of selling hope in a bottle, or on a website or a charismatic church tent - it’s being sold via a coaching program or a hugely expensive seminar or web launch…
next week we’ll have 7/7/7… what’s the week after ?
The buyers of this hype are like internet dieters - looking for the next Big Thing to solve their problems…
If Rich has done anything well - it’s reading the general discontent people are feeling with the lack of substance in many of these internet promises/launches & then tapping into it himself & selling his own version of a panacea… packaging common sense & basic business fundamentals, with almost messiah-like zeal.
And, irony is, he even tells you he’s doing it - and you buy it still…( c.f. the comment about his meeting with Agora & how they re-sell into psychological holes which never get filled.)
Fact is, the Emperor has no clothes (yeah Rich … use that in one of your next releases…)…the “internet marketing” guru’s re-packaging bromides like Tent Evangelists & taking ya’ all for a fat expensive ride & laughing all the way to the bank - while this mad purple patch lasts…
Enough now (gullible) people.
On the count of 1,2,3 - would you all get lives! …Stop looking for something or someone outside yourselves to do your own thinking & business building for you.
p.s. Richard, congrats… you’ve cracked the internet DA Vinci code & scaled it up a good few notches & are using to make a whack in the process
Gotta hand it to ya’…
you are right Rich, we are in the attention age.
Hi Rich,
I think that the global economy is on the move again - from the “Attention age” to the - “INTENTION AGE”:
“The Intention Economy grows around buyers, not sellers. It leverages the simple fact that buyers are the first source of money, and that they come ready-made. You don’t need advertising to make them /… / In The Intention Economy, the buyer notifies the market of the intent to buy, and sellers compete for the buyer’s purchase (by getting his attention somehow in some way - you said it Rich). Simple as that.” (Doc Searls, The Intention Economy)
http://www.linuxjournal.com/node/1000035
What do you have to say for the “Attention age” defense?
Thanks for all your reports!
Eyal
I would say that the negative commentary is TESTAMENT that we live in an over communicated world. What I get that Rich is saying. Is that the most valuable thing we have is our attention. And if youre going to be doing anything e-commerce related, maybe not even e-commerce related. Just do anything PERIOD in life, that in todays world you’re going to have to compete for the valuable commodity of attention in another person. The ones that figure this out, will be the ones who prosper and make their goals reality.
Comon face it really…. You’re all anticipating the next segment. And I believe this to be part of rich’s business model with this. Create anticipation. Its one of the biggest parts of human nature there is. Aniticipation and prediction. The backlash here is that you’re selfish needs for fulfillemtn of your desire werent met that way you wanted them to. Another problem with technology and todays world, its on demand baby yeah. I want what I want and I want it NOW. And when I dont get it, I’m going to howl like a 6 yr old child. Sorry to say it like that but by in large its true. More means of communication and avenues for fulfillment doesnt make for better communication or more satisfaction.
Todays world is constructed that way. Distraction here distraction there. Its easy to be distracted when you Dont know what you want. The problem as I see it in my life and encounters with others is that for the most part people need to be told what to do, what they want, how to do this or that. Rather than figuring it out on their own or actually going and asking someone who knows already how to do what they themselves want to be able to do.
The concept of be , do , have or decide and do is sorrowfully lacking in many people.
Many are so busy being the problem rather than being the solution. And when when some does assume the beingness of solution of course theyre going to get attacked. Which is why there is so much failure and so many businesses going under. Lack of planning, lack of vision, lack of foresight, lack of desire. “Problem, Problem, Problem” What I like about rich is this, he’s going to tell you what you need to hear not what you want to hear. Rich and John Reese both actually.
Today I finally read a copy of Rich Schefren’s new (wht’s he calling this one? …manifesto?…whitepaper?….or the latest and greatest “holy crap†revelation?) It’s all about “The Attention Ageâ€.
In a nutshell its about time management, and to give him his dibs he’s correct enough in his assessment.
I have to say, “Rich I’m glad you finally get it !â€, but 65 pages to tell us poor uninformed schleps that we are deluged by so much information, that we are being paralyzed? Hey thanks for that.
Rich goes on and on in his “brochure†trying to tell us how much, that information overload, is creating a costly drag, on our productivity and hence profitability. You’d have thought if he’d really “got it†he might have been a lot more economical in his approach to trying to educate us wouldn’t you?
Now you might think I disagree with what Mr. Schefren is saying, but you’d be wrong, I just thought most of us actually got it anyway, without the benefit of a 65 page diatribe. Now I know we are all mentally incapable of grasping most concepts but wow, this is new Rich ??????. I know many don’t actually employ good time management or informational management skills but it sure doesn’t take 65 pages of graphs, sidebars, anecdotes and analogies to explain how we are being super-saturated in too much information.
By the end of the “paper†I was pounding my foot down onto the shards and remnants of my once pristine Motorola Razr, now laying in pieces on the office floor, my computer was freezing up from trying to uninstall 22 different Instant Messaging solutions from the computer’s registry, my shredder was beginning to making grinding noises and smoke from destroying the 22 million marketing articles I had printed and filed., and the automated voice informing me I had mail was sounding like HAL telling Dave, “Look Dave, I can see you’re really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things overâ€.
Just as every communication device I’ve ever owned ground to a shuddering halt that I painfully realized Id forgotten to call Domino’s for the Pepperoni Special double crust I’d promised the kids for dinner…so RICH if you are reading this can you please FedEx me a double order of Tandoori Chicken with some Garlic Naan so my children can eat this evening?
OK, so lets get serious Rich, your 65 pages (well intentioned as they are) did nothing but add to my personal informational friction co-efficient. If you are serious then why did it take you 65 pages of fluff to actually get to the point?
I can honestly say I am an advocate of most of what you have had to say about business principles for some time as your philosophies are quite parallel to our own, but my god man, when you are doing a beat up on information overload wouldn’t it be apt to apply the principle of “economy of expressionâ€? Rich , “we love yaâ€, but please practice what you preach.
I’d love to say more but I’d feel guilty and I have to go germinate some carrots and broccoli so we can eat tonight, seeing as how I am unable now to phone up for some home delivered Thai food anymore
Hi Rich!
I had tears in my eyes laughing at the breakfast table by myself at the truth and reality of your report. It exactly described the position i am in today, your report already has given me time management skills and has defined what i really need to focus on for my future and family, thank you so much for sharing your vision and insight with us.
Yours Sincerely,
Michael Ricketts
P.S I will not be able to make it to your seminar because i reside in Australia are you going to video the seminar for your international clients?
Hi Rich;
Info Overload inded; Decision paralysis & inadvertantly training oneself into increasingly lower levels of concentration… Your obsevervation(s) provide the effect to create a ‘forewarned is forearmed’ position and allow the move from reactive to proactive.
Excellent work; I am looking forward to “the rest of the story.”
BTW, I have attempted to register for call with you & Jay 15 times yesterday and twice today, and all I get is: The page cannot be displayed.
Rich, please consider making a recording of this call available online as I am certian that I am not alone with being unable to register.
Best Regards,
Rick Louis
Are you ok Rich Schefen?
Well you got my attention with that one. Thanks.
I didn’t know who you were. Sorry.
I was just about to ditch you to reduce clutter in my incoming emails. I am still relatively new to the whole internet thing and I have been finding, just like you say, the amount conflicting information coming in, and it has been getting overwhelming.
So I am glad your email caught my attention and with a mixture of intuition I opened it up and I have found it and The Attention Age Doctrine very riveting.
Any one who talks with authority on where we are now with change or evolution, I am really interested in. What do you think about this, that in 1755 evolution sped up by 20 and then on the 5th of January 1999 evolution again sped by 20 so that now There is the same amount of change happening within every 360 days as there was in every 19.7 years before 1999?
I agree about how our IQ is effected. I feel I need to walk in nature every day and this is when my most creative thinking comes along.
And thanks, you gave it to us for free! I really appreciate that. I was wondering about giving some names and emails to send it to so as to access the doctrine, but I am happy I did.
Cheers
Chris
And here’s my website http://www.justgohealthy.com
I think that this report is great, as were the previous three. I have said for years that I need CHUNKS OF TIME to get stuff done, and I HATE being interrupted.
I’ve been practicing chiropractic, acupuncture, and alternative medicine for 14 years. Before that I was a professional musician (classically trained) and a collegiate and amateur athlete.
Can you imagine being constantly interrupted while being with a patient, practicing your instrument, or training for an athletic event? I don’t think so.
I have seen the research studies with Brain Imaging (you will really like this one) that show what happens to the brain when multi-tasking. It is not good. One actually performs worse at every activity, because the different areas of the brain are split, and increased amounts of stress chemicals are created, because the brain is not really designed for multitasking (even though there are many people who say they are great at it). It has been scientifically proven that we are less stressed (physiologically, mentally and emotionally), and our brain is more productive, when we are focusing on one thing at a time.
I checked out your speaker lineup for your upcoming seminar in two weeks, and it’s amazing that you are going to be having David Kolbe there, using the Kolbe A Index to help evaluate people. I took it last August, at the recommendation of Alex Mandossian, and I think it’s awesome! It totally nailed me and who I am, and I have been working to shift my gears ever since.
Talk about synchronicity! Just yesterday afternoon (before I read your Doctrine Part I last night) I was talking with my partner Melanie, and she said that somebody should use the Kolbe test, the Gallup Strengthsfinder test, and the XL Wealth Dynamics test to assess WHAT kind of person one is, before running off and purchasing Internet Marketing programs = because most TEACHERS are selling SYSTEMS that are mere reflections of themselves! It is really important to find out WHO YOU ARE before embarking on the “Information Overload” of Internet Marketing, and then QUIT, because you were trying to do something that is not in your nature!
Right now I am in the process of selling my practice (dealing with accountants, attorneys, contracts, etc.) and it does not work for me to attend your seminar in two weeks. I have a feeling that at some point I may join your coaching program, but I’ve got to get past this milestone first (so I can free up CHUNKS of TIME to work on my Internet Business).
From what I’ve seen over the past year, your programs are going to just keep getting better and better.
Thank you.

Before I had finished this first part of your Doctrine, I think I had identified all the problems you described have been (and are being) experienced by people I know, and in particular BY ME! This will immediately increase my effectiveness, even if my early efforts to follow “best practices” are less than optimum. I am giving up my Info-lust and Info-Addiction which will delay the time when I will need more storage space in my computer. I have more now in my “just-in-case” files than I could possibly read in a full year of nothing but reading. I have already re-visited some of my early “just-in-case” articles and have discovered that my latest ones make those early ones obsolete - and I never got to read them!
Thank you for the “slap up the side of the head” that I (and nearly everyone else) most urgently needed.

Hi Rich,
Trust me on this….. MY HOME BASED BUSINESSES

have SKYROCKETED only because of your ADVISE and influences which i have applied from your priceless treasures of
your GOLDMINE…..INTERNET BUSINESS MANIFESTO…..THE FINAL CHAPTER and i am now relegiously reading through the ATTENTION AGE DOCTRINE….
THANKS A MILLION…………..GOD BLESS YOU RICH…..
YOU MAKE US RICH TOO—LOL
JUMAANI
You probably know this. Many, many people will be unable to come to
your live event.
Myself included. I have timing issues that can’t be resolved. I
believe in fulfilling my commitments to others in business and
personal matters.
Is there any further plan to allow us to get involved?
I’m sure you can’t answer all emails. I’ll look on the website to see
if this question is answered.
Thank you, Bob Ludeman
65 pages to state there is an information overload…and that is only the first installment… Hhhmmm…whoever said Americans do not have a sense of irony?
I think that what is described in the first part of the “Attention Age Doctrine” is something that many Internet Marketer are aware of, but nobody has talked or written about it. I for myself already suffer from Information overload and I ‘m waiting with anxiety for the second part to read how to resolve this problem.
I found the doctrine a very good work that inspires me to think a lot about my personal situation and to look at many pieces of information with different eyes.
It also inspires me to get rid of so much cyber dust from my PC
Hi Rich, thank you, for giving me a lot of my life back.
You have save me from going mad trying to do to much,
with all the information I was getting and I was afraid
I would miss something.
And this Doctrine is the best information I have see in a
long time, The Attention Age.
You have “My Attention ” anytime you want it.
Thanks mate, and please keep writing.
Hey Rich,
To this point most seem to feel as though you wrote this report without much to take away while we await the next installment… I have to say most aren’t listening or paying attention if this is the case.
The biggest and most profound message that I have learned from you is two fold.
First: Service. Serve your market like no other - address the pain the market is experiencing without exploiting them with BS offers. As one of the 11 week coaching students this has been invaluable to me on how I now communicate with my target market. As a result I progressively and exponentially experience huge gains in momentum and business. The approach I have adopted and now see as my own is service – educate and support. This in it of itself commands attention.
Second: One of, if not the best methods to marketing is using education. And time and time again you educate us on information that has real world value - This value is so disruptive to the general “guru” that I have realized very quickly that I don’t need to be on everyone’s list and make sure I read every email.
My feeling is that high standards and high value education and service are what will grab the Attention of our markets.
The point is when we take responsibility to truly serve our market (REALLY SERVE) then getting the attention seems to be much, much easier. Making gains in revenue are simply the bi-product of that service.
The VALUE of the information we help our markets with is where the pots of gold lay.
I’m in the web development industry – we differentiate ourselves by helping our clients implement a lead generation and marketing strategy coupled with a professional grade website. The technical stuff is commoditized as you know… so by educating our clients – our market – that only hiring a web designer to make a pretty website is actually a huge pitfall – because most web designers do not implement list building or even general marketing strategies into the site – so most small business owners don’t understand why they aren’t gaining traction with their site.
My point to this is: we first educate our market on what to look for, what to look out for and the real world understanding of what a website must do in order to gain traction and ultimately high profits.
Rich, you are the example of how important educating, serving and supporting the market is. As stated above it’s this service that I believe is, and will continue to get the most attention – and to be really clear… I’m not talking about the every other day Blog post, or contributing to a forum – it’s the way you capture our attention and hold it with these reports that evidently provide tremendous VALUE before we ever consider grabbing our credit cards… which incidentally becomes a foregone conclusion.
I hope I’ve clearly articulated my thoughts here… it’s so important to stop with the hit and run marketing that we see rampant online. My mission is to really understand my market and provide this type of value that I’ve come to expect from you Rich.
Thanks for being the example of what is REAL and demonstrating by your actions how to really capture the Attention of the market.
Rich: Thanks for the tell it like it is article. I can see my self in this so clearly that I’m shifting gears to get down to real business. Was disappointed I could not get in to your interview. Went in 8 min. early, was cut off and went in 4 min. early and was cut off and then they would not accept the code. Maybe you will give us a tape of the interview. Thanks again.

Hey Rich,
Yet another great instalment in you arsenal of mind-blowing articles. As webmaster for a forward thinking owner, she has allowed me to institute you principals in her business and website - sales have tripled!
Also, from strictly a sales standpoint, modeling your marketing techniques have reaped great rewards.
Thanks for your ongoing contributions!

I have already BEEN experiencing information overload for quite some time now, which has resulted in inaction and complete confusion. Too much to learn and absorb. Your publication was right on the mark about that. Now we need to know how to BREAK information addiction.
The conference call today (SUN) is NOT recognizing the access code. So I cannot attend. Hopefully there will be a MP3. Now regarding the Attention Age document…
I thought about NOT leaving a comment…but then I got your email, so here goes…
I, too, had LOADS of difficulty downloading this report - it took several HOURS with numerous server timeouts (I’m on very high speed cable). I eventually went and downloaded a DOWNLOAD MANAGER which even got timed out about 10 - 12 times before it could complete the download. At least it always resumed from the point where it started.
Then…
I started reading it. Aside from the AWESOME structure your graphic development team put together, a very eye-catching document indeed, well, I was very disappointed.
I’m already QUITE aware of the problem. I already applied CONTROL mechanisms LONG ago offline, strategies that have me performing at peak levels of efficiency and respect my TIME and QUIET SPACE. I marvel at the people who are GLUED to cell phones, who cannot tolerate SILENCE and who seem to delight in coming into my quiet space to talk on one (I just saw a father/son team both yacking on one while entering a Schyler Book store - a book store…get a life already).
Cell phones have become the new umbilical cord. You should see just how many people who don’t have anything big or important going one will have cell phones BUZZ during their SCHEDULED appointments with me. Like they are going to miss something…
It always brings Dan Kennedy to mind when he said YEARS ago that he wouldn’t have one.
Online, I’ve also taken numerous steps to educe my exposure to interruptions and the marketing hyperbole machine. I got rid of ICQ and anything that smells of instant messanging essentially right after it came out. I do NOT use Outlook as my primary email - and never liked ANY program that alerts me when I receive an email. I do NOT have any Bluetooth enabled ‘contact me anytime’ devices. Even Skype - it is on WHEN I plan to use it. THAT’S IT!
I’ve unsubscribed to MOST lists to decrease the NOISE in my inbox.
Amazing how it still materializes.
I evaluate each new product launch that makes its way through the gauntlet with a GLANCE if not a DELETE, always weighing it against my business growth plan, as to whether it fits into my CURRENT business strategy for a walk-away business - something I can use RIGHT NOW - or whether it’s just another TANGENT, more STUFF and DISTRACTIONS from wannabee gurus or recognized ones looking for a new payday, usually before the new tactic they’ve been profiting from becomes obsolete (which is usually SOON, otherwise why would they be selling it to you?).
Rich, I’ve referred many business contacts to the prior reports due to their high quality and meat. However, THIS one just doesn’t live up to their depth and usefulness. Where is the meat? I was scratching my head wondering WHERE this is going…not that I’m concerned about any hidden agenda. I’m already involved in the BGS.
Aside from this being a BEAUTIFULLY prepared and annotated document, I’m not sure what mark you were shooting for with it. If it was just awareness of the problem, most people who’ve been on your list for any length of time are already AWARE of the problem…and have/are taking steps to correct it.
It’s that ONE reason why Tim Ferris’ popularity in the IM world has skyrocketed in record time? His 4 Hour Work Week is part of that message.
Then again…Maybe this is for the UNINITIATED. IF someone comes across this document who are busy with busy-ness, wondering WHY they are not succeeding, or ARE succeeding but always pressured, never having any time to have a REAL life, are too wrapped up in spinning plates, jumping from deal to deal OR gimmic of the day, MAYBE this serves as a light, to help them see their addiction and suggest a path to remedy this madness.
maybe…

You have me pegged! I’ve thought some of this before, but your treatment is so much more complete. I am waiting for the July seminars now more than ever. Thank you for making this so clear (you really have a gift for that, BTW, Rich).
Rich,
I remember a long time ago reading John Naisbitt’s Megatrends, and I thought it was remarkable how someone could see such a big picture of the experiencial nature of life. Frankly, you’re in the same ball park. Like others on this post, I’m looking forward to part 2. But you have awakened (pointed out) a flaw that I need to correct…thinking of one thing and doing something else. Technological breakthroughs have been driven by a sense of urgency, the origin of which I’m not quite aware. Is it just me, or is everyone in a real big hurry these days? Why? Are we driven by the fear of loss, the fear of lack or feelings of not having enough? Are we afraid of being left behind? Here’s a clue. You are already behind! There will always be those ahead of you! Conversely, there will always be those who are behind you! Some people act as if they’re trying to live two or three lifetimes in one! It would seem to me than when we shift our motivation away from fear and toward the desire to benefit others, we could accomplish more in a relaxed way! At that point, you’re slowing down on the outside, yet speeding up on the inside. Anyway, thanks for Part 1 and I look forward to part 2.

Actually, the core of this info and a good deal more can be had for less than $20 by reading “The 4-Hour Work Week.”
Why have a select few pay thousands of dollars at a seminar, if the gneuine intention is to let as many people as possible benefit?
Rich,
What a sales letter to promote your Doctrine- contest and all!! Brilliant advertising and this is what I consider this manifesto to be, a long but brilliant ad for those who have been entwined in the Trance, except for one thing. I was left with a familiar bad taste in my mouth–my fault for buying into the hype. I guess I’m just one of those information junkies looking for the golden grail. I thought I had learned a long time ago that you get exactly what you pay for. So for all your”sincere anger” re too many gurus promoting useless information all I have to say is ,like attracts like. All the background info filled pages -impressive- but common sense should/could have covered it by saying …………………
Smart is smart, turn offs are turn offs. Many blessings.
Why attention does NOT = money, and why the Attention Age Doctrine is a bunch of crap
Ahhhhh… another buzz word… the attention economy…
“Attention is the new currency…â€
“Garner attention and you get rich…â€
“The rules have changed… and you’d better listen up or you’ll get squashed like road-kill…â€
What is this some kind of repeating nightmare I haven’t woke up from? This sounds oh so eerily familiar.
Now I ask you…
… Last time you heard that did it really pan-out how it was painted to you?
Have the rules really changed?
Here is a drastic thought…
Nothing has changed…
The fundamentals are still in place! Just like they were before the printing press was ever invented. Just like they will be 10,000 years from now.
Human nature is the same now as it was 1000 years ago. People have the same needs, same desires, and the same triggers that get them to act.
Do you know what…
…The only thing that has changed…
….And that is FRICTION… or rather the lack of friction. (What do I mean by that? Well, ready on because it could make you rich.)
Friction, not attention is they key in the “new economyâ€â€¦ I mean think about it…
Do you really want more attention?
Does attention really = wealth?
Before you say “yesâ€, really think about it.
More attention = more consumption of your resources… more server resources, more time, more customer support…
…more attention from the wrong people = sales to the wrong people, greater refunds, more dissatisfied clients, which leads to dealing with the scrutiny of the zillion different alphabet agencies…
You don’t want more attention!
You don’t want more website visitors!
You don’t want more people recognizing your face, your name, whatever…
…Anymore then you want more information.
What you want is just the right kind of attention at the right time from the right people / organizations / systems. Just like you only want the right information at the right time…not a drop more, not a drop less.
What you’re seeing explained in The Attention Age Doctrine is only an artifact of the reduction of FRICTION, not information, not attention…. A reduction of friction in all sectors of this human game…
Before friction determined what you could focus on, what you could do for work, where you could live, what value you could deliver, how you could deliver it…
… and it still does.
But with the ever-increasing advancement of technology that friction gets less and less.
You want to get rich?
STOP FOCUSING ON CREATING ATTENTION!
Instead focus on creating systems that remove friction between the value in the marketplace and where that value can be realized.
Key questions you should ask that will make you rich…
Where is the value in the marketplace?
Who can most benefit from that value right now?
What are the friction points between the two?
How do we reduce or remove those friction points?
J Remington
P.S. I actually loved “The Attention Age Doctrine”. Thanks Rich. Why the negative headline?
